Fresh and Healthy Margarita Recipe [Dtube Video Tutorial]

Alright guys... there are going to be a lot of people out there drinking margarita's today, and so I thought i'd share my recipe for a super fresh version of this classic drink.

Do yourself a favor and throw away that gross sweet and sour mix. There's no need when you can make a fresh, homemade margarita in minutes!

Cindo de Mayo... an American Holiday?

I'd love for anyone who lives in Mexico to chime in... but from what I can tell - Cinco de Mayo is basically an excuse for Americans to get drunk on tequila. My friends in Mexico tell me that down there, Cinco de Mayo is literally just the 5th of May.

That being said... I LOVE Mexican food and margaritas, so I plan to take full advantage of the today's festivities. I am actually make a mango, avocado salsa to bring to a party later tonight!

The Recipe

I love focusing on presentation, and so the first thing I think about when making a cocktail - is the glass. I try to pair the size of the glass with the size of the drink. This recipe doesn't have a lot of liquid, so I am going on the smaller side with a 12oz mason jar.

I also want to mention what a difference a good citrus press can make! THIS is the one that I use, and I freaking love it. I get way more juice out of my lemons and limes than I used to with just squeezing them by hand or with a reamer.

Lea's Margarita Recipe

Makes one drink

• 2 shots of Tequila (Get the best quality you can afford)
• Juice of whole or half lime (to taste)
• Fresh squeezed, unpasteurized orange juice. (To taste... I use one shot of OJ with every 2 shots of tequila)
• Sweetener to taste. I use Monk Fruit to taste, but use whatever sweetener you prefer.
• Optional soda water or flavored LaCroix to taste.

Because this recipe is pretty strong on the tequila, you may wish to add in some soda water to dilute it down. Most margarita's have a lot of sweet and sour liquid in the drink, and so not everyone will like the stronger tequila flavor. If you choose to go without the soda water (my preference), just keep that in mind when you are slurping it down!
