La Guancha’s lighthouse by Coqui Unlimited.

Ravashed by the storm I finally got to see what has been left of La Guancha (Ponce’s popular family seaport). Right after the hurricane and for months this area was forbidden to the public. It was a very unsafe zone.

Maria hit the beach area with all its might and left a popular tourist and local area with nothing. There was nowhere to go from the stress and no where where the locals could enjoy a family Sunday together.

Devastado por la tormenta finalmente pude ver lo que queda de La Guancha (puerto de la familia popular de Ponce). Justo después del huracán y durante meses esta área fue prohibida al público. Era una zona muy insegura.

María golpeó el área de la playa con todas sus fuerzas y dejó un área turística y local popular sin nada. No había a dónde ir de el estrés y donde los lugareños podían disfrutar juntos de un domingo familiar.

This is how the lighthouse looks today. Huge contrast from six months ago. If you observe clearly, you can see the top layer’s damages. You can also see the painting looks washed, giving it an old feeling to it.

What is new is the flag someone cleverly and beautifully painted on the middle of the lighthouse. As if to say, we are still standing strong. Hit but not beaten.

Así es como se ve hoy el faro. Enorme contraste desde hace seis meses. Si observa con claridad, puede ver los daños de la capa superior. También puede ver que la pintura se ve lavada, dándole un sentimiento antiguo.

Lo nuevo es la bandera que alguien pintó hábil y bellamente en el medio del faro. Como si dijera, todavía nos mantenemos firmes. Golpeados pero no vencido.
