Hurricane Update

in #blog9 years ago

Well friend's this post is more of a somewhat update on how things are in the island of Puerto Rico with hurricane Irma passing today on a Category 5 and it being the first time the island is to get hit with such a huge hurricane.

For now, we are alright with the island closest to the island of St. Martin's, Culebra, soon to get the eye of the storm with supposedly 85 MPH winds. Caguas, is also getting hit and what seems like a gas station already down, not sure how that has happened. There are parts of the island up north already without electricity and safety shelter's doing what they can doing without as well. Palm trees coming down fast and light poles. The ocean is looking vicious and you can tell how dangerous it is by debris and its brownish color (highly unusual since the island's water are usually breathtaking).

I am currently located in the southern part of the island, an area that can't even handle and inch of rain (so it was confirmed by a local reporter). More than the hurricane in this area we are concerned of floods. My biggest concern is my Mother and her cute dog, so I have been dragged to remain with them in her home. Wondering why she didn't leave with me right? Well as most Latin Elderly ---she's stubborn!

This is just beginning, so the worst hasn't arrived just yet. We are just as concerned as you all, for our safety. For those that don't know this hurricane is supposedly bigger than the one that just hit Houston, Texas (USA). This is a very small island and not quite a state (not yet anyway, though its' citizens, most anyway, are trying to make it so) but a Commonwealth of the US, with certain special privileges, so not just a US territory as other nearby islands. The concern of the people is the fact that it is indeed not a state and many folks of the US are not happy with the way Trump has dealt with the hurricane of Texas. So, major concerns are with this US territory, will mediocre help be what the US citizens of the island be receiving should this get as bad as Texas? Let us just hope it gets nowhere near the disaster of Texas. So keep praying for us and yours truly.

Winds are really picking-up as I am writing. I am trying to write as fast, so please forgive all my grammatical mistakes. Trying really hard to finish my writing in case we lose power in this area.

Will write a new update as soon as I can. Thank you @melinda010100, @guarddog and @birjudanak for your concerns. Thank you for being the lovely people that you are.

Ok, found it. Stay safe and find high ground. Drag your mother kicking and screaming if you must!

Sounds like a plan! ;)

Has it passed over yet?

Not exactly, we're still having heavy winds and lots of rain and flooding in different parts. Plenty of outages too.
