Ricercar primi toni - Anonymous | Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 34

This is my entry for the Secrets of Organ Playing Contest Week 34. I'm playing Ricercar primi toni by none other than Mr. Anonymous! Mr. Anonymous sure did write a lot of compositions...

I first heard this work performed by fellow organist, @partitura, in his own post Anonymus, Ricercar primi toni. I was so eager to play it (over three weeks ago), but @partitura's website went down whilst he was on holidays. So I had to wait patiently to get my hands on it :)

I don't play much Renaissance music but since participating in these contests, I am able to hear the music of others and it expands my musical vocabulary. A Ricecrar is essentially a fugal type composition and is commonly used as a prelude to other works. The character is quite serious, strict and commonly uses long note values—probably because it's seeking out the key/mode of the piece. I find it fascinating to play this Ricecrar and how it eventually evolves into what we know as "the Fugue" by the likes of the great Johann Sebastian Bach.

I hope you enjoy my 'unique interpretation' of this anonymous work.

Nice to hear/see my work is being used. I like your registration. I often use a reed in this kind of composition as well.

Thank you.
