Recital preparation day

Yesterday was my recital preparation day in Bowral. I didn’t want to rush my preparation so I travelled up on the Friday and had Saturday (yesterday) to familiarise myself with the organ and set my registrations. Hey! Look! I’m famous! I made it onto the church’s bulletin board 😅

The church grounds and building are well maintained. Also, being Spring, everything is blooming so it adds to the beautiful scenery.

There has also been an extension to the church that was completed several years ago. It incorporates a modern foyer area, offices, hall and catering facilities. Unfortunately, I didn’t get any photos of this yesterday as I made use of my time practising 🙂

For all the organ nerds out there, here is the Fincham console. The manual key colours are reversed (black keys are white and white are black). On the music stand is my reduced score copy of the BWV552 so I can turn the pages myself.

And now for the stop jambs. It’s quite a decent specification and even includes an 8’ solo Trumpet (on own chest) and a digital 16’ Open Wood and 32’ Double Open Wood. Definitely plenty of gravitas. My only ‘complaint’ is that the church is too small and the acoustic is too dry for the organ to have maximum effect.

To finish and reward myself with yesterday’s practice efforts, I had lunch at midday 😎
