This place is cool, really cool. It’s rather upscale here when comparing to some of the northern parts I have visited like Hanoi for instance. Ho Chi Minh City, still very commonly referred to as Saigon by the locals, is fancy in parts. Just like anywhere else though, there are pockets of poverty dispersed throughout.

Vietnam is still considered a “third world country,” but you can see the country coming together to fight this stain by building things from the ground up. For the short time I’ve been in Saigon (less than 24 hours), I’ve noticed nicer sidewalks, buildings and infrastructure, more local businesses as opposed to pop up shops on the streets, etc.

The realness is still there, but the newness is beginning to shed through and overtake the stigma often associated with “third world” Vietnam. More foreigners have ventured here to HCMC to call home because it can support this type of lifestyle now. Last night, I went out to just chill and have a drink. I was taking it all in, listening to the sounds and watching the scene unfold before my eyes, while thinking back to where I come from. It’s a whole new world with a completely different set of norms, but it’s cool to experience and compare the differences firsthand.

I caught this nice pic last night chilling while overlooking the street. The massive array of utility wires is something you very commonly see here in Southeast Asia. I thought it was picturesque, but that’s just me. I could be wrong.
