35mm Lens 📷 Up Close And Personal

in #photography9 years ago

I've read so many times not to use wide angle lenses for portraiture but I love the intimacy and the sense of environment you can get with them.

I imagine some of the aforementioned advice comes from headshot shooters, and to be fair, longer lenses are advisable for accurate, flattering headshots. This was taken with an older prime lens on my D750. I picked up the Nikkor 35mm F2D for 200 euro, and the performance for that price has been outstanding, in terms of focus speed and sharpness. It's also very compact. Really enjoying using this lens.

Thanks for visiting. Tell me, what kinda kit do you use? Do you ever shoot portraits with a wide angle lens? Would love to hear from you in the comments below.

I love my 35mm and use it for portraiture quite a bit!

This was shot with a Canon 5D MKII and a Yungnuo 35mm

it even has some nice #bokeh :)

The bokeh is often crazy awesome!

Lovely shot dude. Thanks for commenting.

I'm a fan of wide angles. It often gives you interesting perspectives, and puts your subject "in" there environment, where a long lens "removes" them from it.

There is so much to love about this shot! That look and @vajola's beautiful striking blue eyes. That one errant curl falling down over her right eye. The depth of field is perfect with @vajola in perfect crisp focus and the soft but not so out of focus background so you can tell she is in a greenhouse. It all comes together to make for a perfect shot.

I think if you had used a longer lens you would loose the sense of the environment which would take a lot away from this shot. I also think with a longer lens the background would be less soft which would loose the soft bright feeling of this photo.

As far as 50mm vs 35mm and portraiture, I think it depends on what you want the shot to look like. I don't think a 35mm is generally unflattering but it does have a style to it. I would be interested in what @kommienezuspadt's opinion is on the subject.

the price of a lens doesn't always tell the quality images you could make with it :) most of my lenses costed less then € 100,- all manual focus but they work like a charme

Great photograph!
