A Friend of God

Friends are very important part of our lives. Besides our relatives those that we relate closely are friends. I have never seen anyone without a friend or friends. A man who is without a friend is the one that walks alone and when he stumbles and fall there will be no one to lift him.

God himself cherish friendship, Abraham was His good friend, God loved Abraham to the extent that He wouldn't do anything without making His intentions known to Abraham. This is the extent to which God's friendship with a man can go.

And so the Scripture was fulfilled that says, “Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness.” And so he was called God’s friend. James 2:23

Why would God not pick anyone but Abraham to be His friend? The Scriptures says Abraham believed God and it was credited to him as righteouness.

Abraham believed God when he had never seen God before, he responded to the call of God when he never knew where the Lord was leading Him:

Now the LORD had said unto Abram, Get you out of your country, and from your kindred, and from your father's house, unto a land that I will show you: And I will make of you a great nation, and I will bless you, and make your name great; and you shall be a blessing: And I will bless them that bless you, and curse him that curses you: and in you shall all families of the earth be blessed. So Abram departed, as the LORD had spoken unto him; and Lot went with him: and Abram was seventy and five years old when he departed out of Haran. Genesis 12:1-4

Abraham after hearing God's voice obliged and departed. He was moved by faith and not by sight. He didn't see the land God promised him or all the wealth and blessings the Lord promised him yet he obeyed.

This was the beginning of his friendship with God. He obeyed all the statutes and his commamdments that made God loved him.

Friends, God is looking for such people to make friends with today. He is looking for people who will do anything he says. He is not just looking for friends but true friends, people who will not hesitate but will answer when He calls and go when He sends.

Jesus moved with twelve disciples and they were just servants. They followed the master wherever he goes and until the time they truly got to know of his true identity and did whatever he commanded they were never friends but only servants.

You are my friends, if you do whatsoever I command you. I don’t call you servants anymore, because a servant doesn’t know what his master is doing. But I’ve called you friends, because I’ve made known to you everything that I’ve heard from my Father. John 15:14-15

Jesus said to them; to be my true friends you should do whatever I command you. We cannot become God's friends until we do what He commands us. A friend is the one who does what you like or what pleases you.

Today God is looking for people who will do what He wants and what pleases Him. We should be more concerned about being closer to God as friends for it comes along with a great a privilege and that is knowing what God is doing.

The same way we tell our friends everything the same way God tells his friends everything.
God only hide things from servants and not friends. There is nothing that God will purpose to do that He will never give you an advance knowledge if you are truly his friend.

When God wanted to destroy sodom and Gomorrah He couldn't hide it from Abraham. He shared every little secret with Abraham before destroying the two cities:

And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do; Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him? For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do righteousness and justice; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he has spoken of him. And the LORD said, Because the cry of Sodom and Gomorrah is great, and because their sin is very grave; I will go down now, and see whether they have done altogether according to the outcry, which has come unto me; and if not, I will know. Genesis 18:17-21

Jesus will speak in parables each day to the people but when he meets with the disciples who were his best friends he explains every parable in detail.

He did not tell them anything without using a parable, though he explained everything to his disciples in private.Mark 4:34

He told them everything that they needed to know about his crucifixion to the his resurrection.

Brethrens, It feels great to be God's friend and have the privilege of getting knowledge about everything.
