While booking my hotel for the DC Blockchain Summit, I found an interesting option. Marriott has a new brand, Pulse Vacation Club, in several large cities, to include Washington DC. The club in DC is located on the 7th Floor of the historic Mayflower Hotel.

Because it was one of the few locations with a vacancy near Georgetown, I booked it, not fully knowing what to expect. But I have stayed at the Mayflower before and love the classic old hotel. The hotel opened in 1925 and has been home to many dignitaries as well as hosting many state functions over the past century.

The hotel was easy to get to from the airport. The check in desk had a small crowd checking in (early), but just after I got in line, two additional employees arrived to speed up the process. It went fast. The Pulse Club floor has its own attendant who can answer questions. There is also a fancy coffee machine near the desk with free Starbucks for guests.

The rooms on the seventh floor are the same as any other floor. They are fairly nice sized rooms. My room faces a courtyard and does not have a view to speak of. But I won’t be spending much time looking out the windows anyhow. And if I need to, I can head up to the eighth floor to the concierge lounge.

The room had a comfortable bed, which is most important. The room was fairly silent and had a relaxed atmosphere. The large television had a nice selection of cable television choices as well as an internet television menu for folks with subscriptions. The internet was fast and reliable. The bathroom was average size, but most importantly, impeccably clean. The bathroom offered free soap and shampoo with a bamboo theme from a company called Lather. The room had plenty of plugs for charging electronics to include a built in charging strip in the large work station desk in the room.

As a platinum member, I also get access to the concierge lounge. The Mayflower has a nice one. If you need coffee or a cold drink during the day, it is free in the lounge. They also serve breakfast, a light dinner and evening desserts. The lounge is larger than many I have been in, but also had quite a bit of traffic in and out. The food was good and the serving area kept clean and stocked.

At full price, this hotel runs over five hundred dollars per night this time of year. I got in for less than half that price. The hotel has historic charm, a great location and friendly staff. While not the cheapest option, it is an excellent hotel with a rich history. It has survived the past century with elegance.
