1860s, the war comes close to the end, or may not, for the North. The first “win” finally takes place right beside Maryland. This is the time the whole situation of the war turns – the plan of the South was to get the help from Europe and create a new nation, but now Europe seems not wanting to help since the failure from the Antietam. At this moment, the fastest way to end this war is to force the South to give up their original plans, their original motivations – to create new nation, to get help from the European countries.

The Emancipation Proclamation comes out, turned the whole war from a defensive war of protecting the South new nation from the North to a way more sensitive hot focus all around the world that time – slavery. Right after the war of Antietam, the Emancipation Proclamation comes out. Abraham Lincoln, first time, in front of public, declared that the war was about the slavery, which is saying the North now is fighting a war that is going to repeal slavery.

At this point, all the European countries, may or may not believe, supported the action of the North. The situation for the South now is leading away from their ideal. Britain and other European countries will never join a war that supports slavery, and thus, the idea of creating a new nation under the help from Europe now is all gone. The Emancipation Proclamation, also, is considerate as a lawyer’s angle – Abraham Lincoln was a lawyer and he successfully finds the way to make this proclamation legal. As the spoil of the war, now the Union has the right to release and free all the slaves that are slaved in a state which is against the Union. This idea also tries to bring back the states, so they can keep their slaves. This action gives all states a chance to rejoin the Union – though no one except West Virginia has done that.

The proclamation frees those slaves, and gives them a chance to serve in the military, known as the colored troop. The colored troop worked really well and they fight hard. They also helped the North to win the Civil War.

Later years, which has to be mentioned, the Emancipation Proclamation gives a great push to the 13th, 14th and 15th Amendments, and eventually ends the slavery. Black people later start to have their citizen rights and their rights to vote. On this, the impact from the Emancipation Proclamation is significant.
