It's good to select your ideal personality because it gives you the goal and may inspire you to do something but even though it's good, it comes with a lot of disadvantages. Let me make it a bit more clear. There are two types of comparison. The first one is the type where you compare yourself to less fortunate people, and such comparisons have more pros than the cons. The second type is where you compare yourself to highly fortunate people, even though it may allow you to set your goals but this type overall comes with dangerous cons.
Therefore, it is necessary to educate yourself with those dangerous cons that could actually ruin your life. In this article, I'm going to share those reasons with you and discuss each one in detail so that we could explore even more risks associated with comparing yourself to others.
# 1 - It's a never-ending act:
No matter how successful you become in your life if you make comparison your habit that you won't be able to enjoy the happiness in your own life. You'd always assume that you are given less than others and that will turn your happiness into sadness.
Then comes the disadvantages of being sad all the times. It affects your psychology as a whole and you become less efficient and your skills start decreasing because you want to own everything that your friend owns.
# 2 - Everyone is different:
The reason why you shouldn't compare yourself to the person who's above you is that everyone is different. Every person has a unique style of talking, a different set of skills and different environment. Someone who's good at soccer doesn't mean that he will be good at rugby too.
By comparing yourself to such people, you start to think that you lack something and it makes you mad. Such comparison usually leads to jealousy and we are well-aware of the consequences of jealousy. You need to realize that everyone is different and you might be best at what you do, and your friend is best at what he does. Yes, the comparison comes with some pros too, like it helps you set the targets and follow someone but remember! following someone won't make you unique. If you really want to be a unique person in this world, you'll have to invent yourself.
# 3 - It makes you depressed and increases stress:
The feelings like "He is still better than me" or "He is more successful than me" will make you depressed. You need to know that for every achievement, the time is decreed by your God. No matter how hard you are working on something, if God decreed that you won't be successful at that time, you won't be. But there will be a time when you don't work as hard as before but you still become successful, that's because your God decreed it for you.
So, it makes no sense to feel bad about yourself, and there's absolutely no need to depress yourself by thinking about the success of others over and over again. As I said before, the comparison has some advantages too like it allows you to select your role model (idol) and you get inspired by that person, but that doesn't mean that there are no disadvantages. But I believe it's safe to say that comparison can be good if done occasionally with the positive mindset.
I used to believe that comparison is sort of addiction, once you become better than someone new one appears to compare yourself to.
