Team work

Let’s talk about team work. Does team work happen only at work? No, it’s everywhere in our life as long as there is more than one person. We may not always think about it, but we seem to showcase it every day.

At work, leaders usually encourage team player instead of individual hero. Those whom have great team work spirit will always be recognized and become more popular at work. I used to work with a colleague, he had a lot technical capability and knowledge, but he was too self-fish, or overly pursued job security, he didn’t share his knowledge with others and didn’t want to help others to be more successful. Nobody really liked him even though we still had to work with him as we were still a team. But we only remained work relationship, no personal relationship and friendship at all.
Sport is a great place where team spirit is unprecedently important, unless it’s a one man show, it’s always good to have a harmonized team with average player than just one hero. We heard about star players were traded because they were not a good team player. And we had to applaud for the smart decision of the sport club/management team.

At home, we still need to work as a team. Like a couple, we have strength and weakness. At my home, we split the responsibilities to the expertise and strength. Like my husband takes care of cooking as he enjoys it, I am on the contrary, I don’t like cooking, but I can do pretty good cleaning job, so after my husband cooks, and we enjoy the food he makes, I clean up the kitchen area and keep our home clean. It’s just one example of team work.

Even as parent, you will have to work as a team in raising and educating the kids. In China, people will often ask- ‘which one is ‘white face’ and which acts as ‘red face’?’, meaning when the kid is naughty, which one will be a bad cop and which one will be a good cop? Parents can’t spoil the kids too much even if they want to. They need to teach kids to distinguish good from bad, to be more disciplined, etc, So when kids did something wrong, it’s good for parents to work as a team, it’s a better strategy.

13 billion people live in the same globe, but most of the time, we may seem to be stranger, but when some unfortunate disaster happened, we have seen strangers work as team to go over all the hardship and tragedies together, we can only conquer the world with great team efforts. Think about the earthquake, hurricane, tornados, etc, there were so many touching stories that we had heard, and how people went through the tragedies hand in hand.

We may not always keep the word ‘team work’ in the mouth, but as part of the community, we usually act out of natural to land our hands to others, it’s just in our blood. Let’s think bigger and try to make the world a better place with great team work.
