Hello everyone, and welcome to my diary for the next 51 days. I am gonna talk about life in these posts. For some of them, I might attempt to compose music. Tonight, I will not be.

My Life

This morning, I woke up around 8am. Today was a special day because it was my last "official" day of high school. Though I did not technically have any classes today, and I still have some work to do. . .

The first thing I did this morning was practice piano. I still have my church job to keep up with, and each week I must play a prelude as well as two hymns. I have been alternating each week between playing original compositions, and playing pieces by other composers for the prelude. None of the compositions have been new. I have found myself struggling to compose pieces recently. It is fairly obvious to me that my compositional ideas have been limited by the hopelessness that accompanies 3 months of lock down. This week, I have decided to use the soothing voice of Mendelssohn to begin the service. I decided to finally take a book off the shelf that I have had for a while: Mendelssohn's Songs Without Words. This week, I have been learning the first of those pieces: Sweet Remembrance. I have learned the first page pretty solidly, and the second and third are works in progress. Tomorrow, I intend to finish the piece. This piece is such a meaningful gem. I am so happy that my last week of High School has been filled with the music of Mendelssohn! It seems like destiny that I discovered this beautiful piece this week. Here is a video of the piece performed by Daniel Gortler:

Now that you have listened to the piece, hopefully you can understand the magic that is Mendelssohn's work. I have found that some criticize Mendelssohn by saying: "His music is too perfect. It makes it boring. He doesn't break any rules." I find that to be one of the compelling aspects of Mendelssohn's music. It is who he is, and it sounds so beautiful!

Anyway, after practicing the piece for an hour, I went on Steem for a bit. After that, I began to play minecraft bed wars on the Hypixel server. I have been frustrated with the Westminster project because I cannot figure out how to complete the slanted roof of the side buildings. I have no idea what to do because of all of the diagonal lines created by the mod pack. I wish I had chosen a building with a flat roof to start with. I might have to switch which building I am working on :(

I won several games this morning, and my theory is that the good people start getting on towards the afternoon. When I play in the morning, I find myself winning quite frequently. When I play in the afternoon, I find myself getting slaughtered.

After an hour of playing, I decided to eat cereal, and then proceeded to read Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I have liked it so far. One thing I learned recently is that some people consider Harry Potter to be a form of witchcraft. I find that interesting.

After reading Harry Potter, I began to try to make a recording of Bridge Over Troubled Water for the virtual choir video my school is attempting to make. I failed a lot, and found myself frustrated with trying to make the recording.

After 30 minutes, it was time to talk to my girlfriend (@esouthern3). We started by playing some Bed Wars together. As I said earlier, the people on in the afternoon are much better, and we found ourselves losing quite frequently. After an hour or so, we were both moderately frustrated with the game. We decided to watch netflix together over the internet. We have been watching Avatar the Last Airbender because she did not watch it as a child. Around 6pm, her power went out in the middle of a show. Since our virtual date ended a bit early, I decided to make my recording for choir. I finished it, and still need to submit it.

After that, my father and I drove to Chick Fil A (no idea if I wrote that right) to pick up dinner. The line for the drive through was really long. It took about 30 minutes to get through. They forgot several things in our order, and that was sad. We went home, and my father, mother, and I ate dinner.

At 8pm, my friends and I started a group call to "celebrate" completing high school. I am currently half-ignoring them to write this post (I NEED THE POINTS!) After I post this, I intend to write this week's discussion post. Keep your eyes out for that!
