Back from the hospital after my operation. Thank you all for your good wishes

in #life6 years ago

Wednesday I went to the hospital and made this selfie. Nothing had happened so far, so I was smiling to my own camera. I wear the surgical shirt that you have to wear during the operation

My husband and I arrived at the hospital around 10 am and were escorted to the waiting room on the fourth floor. Because it was also the waiting room for the children's department, there were toys and books etc.

After waiting for 15 minutes, the nurse came and after a short conversation about my surgery, she brought me to room 22. Room 22 was at the beginning of a long corridor.

In consultation with the anesthesiologist, I had opted for an epidural and not for a complete anesthetic.
The operation itself went smooth. During the operation, I had a conversation with the surgeon, because I was awake the whole time. It was a strange feeling that I could not move my lower body at all, it felt like dead meat. I felt like a sheep at the slaughter, no matter how nice everyone was in the operating room.
Because of the epidural, my head was clear and I was back in my room after two hours and I could finally eat something. I had not eaten anything and drank nothing since the previous evening

Because I was given a lot of painkillers I slept reasonably. The next day my husband and my daughter visited me. My husband came earlier than my daughter I did not feel well yet, so I have no picture of his visit. My daughter came in the early evening. I took a picture of her.

After another night the doctor came to tell me I could leave the hospital in the early afternoon. I called my son Mark (@exyle) and he picked me up and brought me home.

He wrote about it himself yesterday and a lot of people reacted. I thank everybody who reacted to my previous post or my son's post and wished me well.

I still have a lot of pain (but that's why there are painkillers) I can't ride a car for two weeks and a bike for six weeks. I also may not carry heavy stuff because I have to spare my belly after the operation. I know I will feel better in a week or so.

But I can read and write, and so I will. I already read a lot of articles and this is the first of (I hope) many posts I will write in the future.

I wish you all a nice day (everybody, but this time especially Mark, Bianca, Ezzy, and Rea who are together this weekend and enjoy each other's company)

I’m glad it all went well! I wish you a speedy recovery!

Thank you, it will take a while, but it'll be fine!

I forgot to tell you that I read your letter to your 20-year-old self. Not only yours, but also from a lot of other people inspired by you. I was moved and will certainly try it myself.
I have a similar example from my time as a teacher. As a history teacher, I guided students from my school to Rome each year. When we visited the catacombs we asked the students to write a letter to themselves. A letter in which they described what they wanted other people to say at their funeral. In other words how they would like to be known at the end of their lives. The students found it a difficult assignment, but very rewarding because they understood that what you want people to say at your funeral depends on how you lived your life. It taught them to think and that should be the goal of every teacher.

Finally we again meet you here. I was worried for you but as soon as I got to know that you are alright it was great relief to me. I had sent my wishes in @exyle post. Please take care of yourself dear, you are very brave lady, stay blessed and healthy dear. Thanks.

I read your wishes in @exyle's post. Thank you very much. I will take care, my body tells me to.

Good to have you back @clio. That was a super speedy operation!
Hooraaay for painkillers :-)

The operation took an hour but they don't keep you any longer in the hospital than strictly necessary. I don't know how this is in other countries, but here in the Netherlands, they send you home as soon as possible.
I had the assignment to pretend for a week that I was still in the hospital. I have my husband and children to look after me, but this is a difficult assignment for (older) people without family or friends.

Yes i think it is the same in France as well. Once one patient is "dealt with", its on to the next. No hanging out at the hospital... Good thing you have family to take care of you.

I am glad that all went well and you are now recuperating at home. Follow doctor's orders and get well real soon.

Thanks, I surely will follow doctor's orders! If I do not, the whole operation might have been in vain and I would not want that to happen!

I got to know you through your son- Mark. I wish you quick recovery, hopefully he can make you some good food from the famous green egg :) You need lots of R & R

Thank you. I think he will make me something here in my kitchen and not from the famous green egg.

Bonjour voisine !! I've been thinking about you a lot these last few days, so now I'm sure it was the brain waves telling me it was time for your operation. It's so great to see your happy face even there in the hospital. You're looking so good so it must have been a good operation. It's interesting that you had the epidural and were awake. I am also happy to see Sjoe and Sam:) I'll send you an email update from here, Atlanta, GA:) Big hugs and bisous, of course, chouette

Hi Chouette, nice to hear from you. All is well here in the Netherlands, I hope you and Jerry are also okay.
Greetings from Sjoerd and myself and I'm curious to know how everything is in Atlanta with you and your guest from France!
