Russian painter Ivan Konstantinovich Aivazovsky (the real name is Hovhannes Aivazian), great artist of the XIX century, was born 1817 July 17 in Feodosia in the family of Armenians. He was a painter of the Main Naval Staff, an academician and an honorary member of the Imperial Academy of Arts, an honorary member of the Academies of Fine Arts in Amsterdam, Rome, Paris, Florence and Stuttgart.

The Ninth Wave

 "The Ninth Wave" is considered Aivazovsky's most famous work. The painter portrays the sea after a severe night storm and people shipwrecked. The rays of the sun illuminate huge waves.
