More video continues to be released of the devastating Pedrogao Grande Leiria fire that claimed 62 lives over the weekend. The videos shared here are primarily obscure first person You Tube videos that are currently not being used by mainstream media sources. Thus providing a first hand glimpse of what took place without news commentary.
Very heartbreaking. Such unnecessary loss.
Many people are saying that this, like the Grenfell Tower fire in London, is the result of austerity measures that have led to cut backs in adequate fire prevention equipment and police services to handle major emergencies. Citizens were not given sufficient warning and fire and ambulance services were cut back so much over the last decade that they had very little ability to provide any effective measures to counter the fires. Europeans are now dying unnecessarily brutal deaths due to austerity that has only seemed to benefit the people at the very top of the financial pyramid.
