First man on mount Everest - motivation for the week

in #motivation7 years ago

Introduction

When faced with a difficult battle, it is not external factors we conquer at the end, but rather internal factors (our very own thoughts and feelings).

"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves." - Edmund Hillary

Origin of the quote and its meaning

Edmund Hillary and his fellow mountaineer Tenzing Norgay were the first two people to reach the summit of Mount Everest, in 1953. As you can imagine, climbing the tallest peak on earth requires extensive planning and extreme self-control.

At the end, Hillary reportedly summed up his adventure with:

"It is not the mountain we conquer, but ourselves."

What this quote means to me

Often when life brings difficulties before you, its difficult to believe in yourself. You are shaped by your thoughts. When confronted with difficulty and you tell yourself you cannot, chances are you won't. However, if you conquer yourself and gain you self-confidence, pride, believe or whatever need be, chances are you'll overcome these difficulties in life.
