GIVE GOD'S TITHE TO HIM

in #steemchurch6 years ago

When we tithe, we put God and his kingdom first. The moment business, home, self, and pleasure come first in your life, your priorities are out of whack.God owns the earth and every person who walks on it. Tithing is dedicating 10 per cent of your funds to be used for the God's purposes on earth.

When we teach tithing to be a means of getting money to pay off church debt, or a cure-all for the church's financial shortfall, or a substitute for other worn-out methods of fundraising we distort God's Word.

It is wrong to say 'I am giving God my tithe', but right to say 'I am giving God his tithe'.

A tithe of everything...belongs to the Lord (Leviticus 27:30)

The first man in the scripture to tithe was Abraham. He did it out of Gratitude. God had delivered him out of the hand of an enemy.

Jacob after a life-changing dream, also told God

...of all that You give me I will give You a tenth (Genesis 28:22)

It is certain some people give under pressure, to impress others or to get tax deduction. But the truth is, we cannot love without giving. We are never more like God than when we are in the act of giving. The bible says

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son. (John 3:16)

When God instructs us to tithe, He is telling us to establish the habit of putting him in the number one slot as a life principle.

...seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. (Mattew 6:33)

If God has blessed you, then show your gratitude by giving him his portion.

Love never seeks it's own, but seeks to give.
We are to give to God willingly and from a heart of love, appreciation and thanksgiving.

Many thanks for stopping by @sc-n team!
It's really encouraging. 😀

"A tithe of everything...belongs to the Lord (Leviticus 27:30)"
Really? The KJV says "And all the tithe of the land, whether of the seed of the land, or of the fruit of the tree, is the Lord's: it is holy unto the Lord."
I don't own any land, what shall be my tithe to the Lord? Even if I do own land where would I leave my bags of wheat and apples and so on?

"...of all that You give me I will give You a tenth (Genesis 28:22)"
But before that:
Gen 28:20 And Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

We see Jacob making a vow, which means he made a special personal commitment to God. We can't take that as God's will or instruction to give money. We can follow Jacob's example, but first we need to make sure we receive some blessing beforehand, just as Abraham was blessed by Melchizedek BEFORE he gave him a tithe. Gen 14:19,20

You're taking verses out of context, twisting God's word. Tithing was meant for the Jews under the Law and didn't include money but food, when Jesus came he ended that form of worship. When the second temple was destroyed in 70AD all tithing and temple sacrifices were stopped.

Jesus does instruct something far more radical than tithing in Matthew 19:21: Jesus told him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow Me.”

Hello friend! I am using the NIV bible. I understand the term 'tithe' as being one tenth of what you have. It is what a christian and a true believer must do to attract more blessings from God. Secondly, Staying alive is a blessing, being enriched by God is even more blessing, so it is our duty to pay our tithe. Remember, we are not giving to God directly. But we are giving for his purposes on earth. Tithe must not necessarily be money.

I must tell you Giving and Tithing are two different things entirely.
If i understand what you are pointing at, Tithing should not be observed in the present day? @lafferin

"It is what a christian and a true believer must do to attract more blessings from God." You don't think God blesses us enough?
"so it is our duty to pay our tithe" Perhaps you can point me to a verse in the bible that says so?
"Remember, we are not giving to God directly" That's true, so we have to ask cui bono? If we're not giving to God we might as well be giving to the devil. Remember, Judas was the treasurer among the apostles. John 12:6
"If i understand what you are pointing at, Tithing should not be observed in the present day?" It shouldn't. It served its purpose for sustaining the priest tribe of Levi since they had no inheritance, no possessions and no means to sustain themselves like the other tribes. Churches embraced tithing for obvious reasons, why was Sabbath worship discarded then? Why not circumcise every male in the world?

Giving to the poor is an entirely different thing. There are homeless people and people on the brink of poverty all around the world. I'm sure almost everyone knows a person like that or finds him or her on the streets by chance. For them we should sell everything we have but they won't ask for everything - they may need food, clothes and shelter just like Jacob when he makes his vow.

Tithing is part of the old covenant that God had with the Jews. The amount we should give could be higher or lower. Tithing isn't even mentioned in the New Testament. This is what the New Testament says about giving:

(2 Corinthians 9:6-7 NIV) Remember this: Whoever sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and whoever sows generously will also reap generously. {7} Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver.

But woe unto you, Pharisees! For ye tithe mint and rue and all manner of herbs, and pass over the judgement and the love of God; these ought ye to have done, and not to leave the other undone.(Luke 11:42KJV)

This means 'Tithing' was actually mentioned in the New testament and also the Lord approves of it. But he wants us not to overlook Godly love towards others which is important. Which is to say 'Tithing' and 'Giving' both makes God happy with us.

God said try me and the doors and windows of heaven will be open on to you, is good to pay tithe, it attracts blessings

Thank you for your contribution. I'm happy you know these, help spread the word of God. @dwayne16

Truth be told. The place of God in our lives should never be disputed. We pay tithes. We don't give it. Tithe is like a debt we owe and to have the devourerers rebuked from our lives, we have to pay our tithes.
