Taking field trips can be beneficial in helping children learn. Field trips are recreational and exciting for students to experience. Before taking field trips teachers can dedicate class time to teaching their students topics related to the theme of the trip they will take. Pamphlets, books, films, assignments, and more can be combined with field trips to encourage students to have fun while learning educational material at the same time.

How To Prepare To Host A Field Trip:

  • Get permission from the school's principal or other authority figure in charge.
  • Determine the number of children attending the trip and make a list of their names.
  • Send a permission letter to all parents to get their approval to take their children on a trip.
  • Offer parents an opportunity to volunteer to help take care of the children on the trip.
  • Make arrangements for food and snacks, first aid in case of emergencies, and a backup plan if case of unexpected setbacks.
  • Have more than one person in charge of the group to facilitate, guide, and care for children.
  • Assign children travel partners or groups and activities to help them learn while on their field trip.
  • The next school day have assignments (exams, essays, or fun activities) relating to the field trip to test how much they learned.

It is important to plan ahead to determine how much class time will be dedicated to a field trip and to ensure there is a schedule in place to keep order.

Depending where you live, available field trip sites may differ. The following are examples of field trip sites where children can learn about a variety of topics.

A Field Trip From My Own Life

Hot Springs

One memorable field trip I recall was visiting Hot Springs. We learned about geological faults, natural resources, and got to experience being surrounded by nature.

Below is a video showing a hot spring, called AGUAS CALIENTES in El Pilar State, Sucre Venezuela. To visit this site it is necessary to hire a tour guide or go with someone with experience in the area. The children who typically visit the hot springs are between the ages of 8 to 11 years old. The hot springs can be dangerous due to the hot temperatures of the area. Students need to be careful and accompanied by responsible adults.

The properties of hot springs:

1 It calms pain due to its analgesic power.
2 It can purify the blood by detoxing the body through diuresis and sweating.
3 Increases the oxygenation of cells, improves metabolism, and improves digestion.
4 Relaxes the nervous system by providing mental relaxation by producing endorphins and regulating glandular functions.
5 Improves some skin diseases such as dermatitis, psoriasis, dermatitis, or fungi.
6 It is said to cure diseases such as diabetes, obesity, gout, gastrointestinal problems, mild respiratory issues, circulation problems, etc.

Knowing, exploring and living it makes it extremely cool.
