Fruit 1: I read but never taste any😔 until I find it - Siwalan
Hellow Steemit Fellows😉
Have you ever read or heard something from people but never seen it for yourself? Places, things, foods, fruits, flowers, trees or vegetables and people?.
Reading is my habit since I was a kid and known how to read. I read many books, magazines and newspapers I got from anywhere. Sometimes when I'm travelling to other places within my country, I searchs for those things that I read or heard from anyone.
Few months ago, when My Hubby and I attended a book's launch at Komunitas Salihara, Pasar Minggu, Central Jakarta, He pointed at a tree behind the building. A tall palm tree called Siwalan aka Lontar aka Toddy palm aka palmyra palm or ice apple.
He then picked up the fallen fruits and take it home as souvenir😂. The robust tree which can reach 30 meters height with fan-shaped leaves also well-known as writing material in the ancient history. Its scientific name is Borassus Flabellifer (you can read about it here for more complete information)
I remember reading from some story book that people eat the fruits and drink it sap and make sugar from the sap too. But I've never tasted the sap neither the fruit until las week 😂😂😂. We're going out for shopping at Pamulang Permai, when we passed the street next to the main street of Pamulang Barat, My hubby spotted a small stall next to the kitchen wares store and told me there's Siwalan Fruits. We didn't stop and continued our plan to other place first and would take the route back home through that street again later.
The man is selling the fruits and the sap too😍
I just feel so lucky at that time, so I decided to buy the whole fruit, its seeds and 2 bottles of the sap😎
the price is IDR 10k per 4 fruits
According to the seller, this fruits were brought from East Java. The tree also a symbol of South Sulawesi Province. Because I wonder how to get the seeds from its shell, I open up one by myself.
I use a sharp knife to peel the fruit and here what I found, only 3 seeds and will always 3😉
And then I worked almost an hour to take the seed out from its shell and here is what I got😂
my nails got blackened by its fruit sap too
The soften skin still needs to be peeled before you can see the transparent soft seed😉. I have a plan to slice the seeds and drink it with its sweet sap.
aahh.. I finally made it😉
you need to keep the sap water in the fridge or you gotta get a fermented one and it would changed to be wine😂
Because the taste of the seeds is sweet and soft like coconut and kolang-kaling, you can use it for another drinks and foods too. I prefer the original taste with its water. Fresh and somehow it is full of calori😊. This is reminding me to another palm fruit called Kolang-kaling 😉 but different taste. You need to choose the right one, not too ripe because it's harder then you young one 😊 just like coconut!
Funny that not all my neighbour knows about this fruit too, so I'm not the only one who curious about it 😊. The seeds along with its sap is the best natural isotonic like coconut and best to maintain dehydration. The seeds also rich in dietary fiber with some vitamins too.
sedaappp...
Aseuli.. leubeh mangat bacut dari ie jok 😂
