My stroke evolved and not in a good way.
My stroke evolved and not in a good way. A couple of weeks ago I posted that I had a stroke on May 6th and then May 7th I was discharged from the hospital thinking that gee whiz I really dodged a bullet that time, but little did I know that sometimes damage from a stroke can take up to a week to show up. On the following Wednesday morning I could not do the same things that I had done the previous morning so back to the hospital I went. After nearly two weeks of therapy I'm back home with about 80% of my abilities back. However I still struggle with very simple fine motor skills like buttoning my shirt or tying my shoes. Everything is harder than it used to be however, when the full damage of my stroke manifested itself in my paralysis my left hand was useless I couldn't even pick my nose! Thanks to the aggressive rehabilitation regime at Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation in the Hackley Hospital in Muskegon, Michigan at least I have 80% of my life back and good prospects for a full recovery. When I sent out the notice of my stroke on Facebook I was surprised at how many people responded letting me know that they had also had a stroke and I was amazed that they showed no inabilities because of it. I hope and pray that I am one of those stories.
I know what causes strokes and like so many other people I adopted an attitude that it would never touch my life. In a word strokes are caused by sugar. I know you have been told that strokes are caused by blood clots plugging up a veinor or by a blood vessel hemorrhage in the brain, but the consumption of sugar is what actually creates the factors that allow these things to happen. In any and all of its Insidious forms one of the most concentrated sugar substances is of course candy, but also in fruit juice. Any health benefits you think come from the consumption of fruit juice are overrated when considering the damage done by the sugar that you also receive from fruit juice. From this point forward in my life I will refuse to eat concentrated sugar of any kind. I'll eat some fruit but that's about it. I never want to go through this again!

I'm sure that you are (now) aware that carbs are effectively the same as sugar.
I'm well aware of that and have been for 30 years, but that did not keep me from stupidly consuming it in copious amounts using intermittent fasting to not gain weight.
Praying you get a full recovery!
By the way, I'm also from Michigan.
I have about 90% of my life back and still feel gains every day. They cleared me for driving again and I hope to go fishing for the first time this summer this week. I just hope I can still tie a fisherman's knot using my left hand to spin the hook.
That is great news! Are there any preventative things you can do to reduce the chance of more incidences?
Yes. Sugar consumption causes strokes. Sugar in any form damages blood vessels. The damage is repaired by cholesterol which narrows vessels. Then sugar also constricts blood vessels to narrow them even more! Body builders suck on hard candy to constrict vessels to make them stand out more for the camera. If you can see the difference with and without it in pictures you know its a powerful constrictor. There is no safe sugar. The most insidious form of sugar is fruit juice. Alcohol, another sugar, also damages blood vessels, but what parent would give their child a glass of wine for breakfast!
