Awesome Hiking at Mount Ulap in the Philippines

Welcome to Mt Ulap located in Itogon, Benguet, Philippines. The surrounding area is commonly referred to as the Mountain Province and generally one of my favourite areas to stay due to the number of adventurous activities and picturesque views to experienced. There is a spiritual and peaceful tranquillity about this region that its so easily to lose yourself from the everyday life and just find yourself in the moments presented.

This little clip is from our 8 hour traverse hike last year. Making our way to Baguio City from our previous destination near Angeles City we arrived close to 5am. From there we had to wait for jeepney heading up to Ampucao and thankfully there’s a McDonalds right there to grab breakfast and freshen up a little. The ride up takes approximately 45minutes then you need to register and pay the fees including a guide for your group. I can’t remember the exact amount but its not much and you get that extra hand for when you want to take some group photos.

There is much to be seen and experience during the walk up. Mt Ulap is 1846m above sea level and the third peak of our trail. There are a few small slippery areas and one must use awareness and caution of your surroundings like all natural environments safety is key. A hiking stick could be useful as far as balance goes and make sure to bring plenty of water too.
There are some camping spots here which would look awesome to try another time and I could imagine getting some awesome star trail/night photographs or just chilling by the fire with friends and loved ones. An overnight will probably easier on the legs too for those who don’t hike as much and just great to really take your time here.

From the end of the hike can head down to Bagiuo and from there make it to another number of destinations like Sagada, Batad (Banaue Rice Terraces) or Mt Kupperpay which can leave some at awe.
