Travel Story #8, Valencia, First Night Out In Spain Nearly Ended Up Disaster And Being Chased By The Police - by chrisadventures

in #travel7 years ago (edited)

My adrenaline was sky-high and my heart rate was probably 1000. I never knew I could run that fast. One of the club bouncers was following me on a freaking quad. The quad was about 30 metres behind my back. That very moment I started to realize that this was seriously an act of foolishness, an act with probably quite some serious f*ing consequences!

"What's the worst that could happen?" I confidently asked my friend when I was slowly walking into the water. Up to that point I was entirely sure that this act could not have any big consequences, I mean, I was just planning to go for a swim? That thought all of a sudden changed when I was in the spotlights surrounded by lights and yelling Spanish guards. That moment I freezed and for a moment I had no idea what would be the best thing I could do.

It was the first week of my study semester in Valencia and also one of my first nights out in Valencia, Spain. That evening we had decided to go to Mya and L'Umbracle, two clubs situated inside the City Of Arts and Science area.

After a good night out we decided to go home around 5 am. The clubs are part of the governmental buildings of the City of Arts and Science, a place where swimming is forbidden, especially during the night. After the guards saw us in the water I decided I had to go out as soon as possible. Another friend still had my t-shirt, wallet, mobile phone, etc. and I was never able to leave the area without being seen. I mean, I was all wet and had no t-shirt. From there, I lost that one friend who was in the water behind me. He ran into another direction than I did.

I knew I couldn't get out that area without being seen and I reminded myself of my Assasin's Creed lessons. I disguised myself by joining a group of party people that were sitting on the ground. I explained them what was going on and asked one of them to go to my friend to pick up my stuff. If I would have picked my stuff up, the guards would definitely have seen me, I mean OBVIOUSLY they would have! I was all wet and had only my trousers on!

That was the very moment when two of my friends arrived at the group I was sitting with and we were all like: WTF JUST HAPPENED!? The minutes after that the area seemed to be quiet, I had my clothes back and we felt way too energized to go home yet. You know that feeling? That feeling like you just want to do stuff and search for a thrill?

One of my friends decided to climb the large stairs with a "DO NOT ENTER" sign (red circle on picture). We followed him up there and that wasn't all, one of them decided to peepee there (yellow arrow on picture). Within a few minutes more than 4 guards up that building came into our direction.

We were slowly trying to walk down the stairs again as if nothing happened up there. At that moment we saw one of the guards checking the peepee place up there and the guy started to yell at us. We were well aware of the big fines for such an act (up to $350 dollars for having a public peepee).

We ran down the stairs and saw another guard, on a quad, waiting there. At the moment we arrived down the stairs she received a call on her walky talky (probably from the other guard upstairs). She told us that we had to wait there and that the police was already on its way. We knew we couldn't stay and wait for the big fine (the wee wee + swimming adventure) to come our way. So we decided to NOT wait for that and started to walk further. The woman repeated her sentence and decided to start the engine of her quad.

At that moment we decided to RUN. And I never knew that adrenaline could have such an impact. I ran so fast and suprisingly I managed to get away from the quad. I ended up hiding in the bushes and waited till all my friends were safe. We escaped, without a fine, but WITH a crazy evening in our memories we went to our beds. We have been very lucky. Many people told me afterwards that this could have ended so much worse. You don't want to be in trouble with the police, especially not with the Spanish police....

This was a crazy night out and please believe me when I tell you that this doesn't weekly happen to me, no worries! If you like to read another post about a crazy night out, read this one:
