My Opinion and Experience
For me, I will say that Vray is a really powerful rendering tool for most 3d softwares. The amazing thing about Vray is that it is available for most 3d softwares and it produces not only realistic results, but stunning renders much faster.
My experience with Vray for 3ds max (which is pretty similar with all the versions of the other softwares), has been amazing so far, I have been able to render out complex scenes much quicker on a regular PC. One of the things I really like about Vray is the ability to achieve realistic results with less tweaks and also the Vray lights and exposure control which allows you achieve realistic renders based on real world physics.
