During my university days, my first year in school, I lived in the school hostel with about 10 people in a room. This room has been demarcated according to your level; older students get a better space, while the open space is meant for the freshers. There is no privacy in that open space. There was this 3rd year's student I met in the 1st year space when I came, as I was the last person to come to the room. Initially, I thought we were all freshers in the space until I noticed the 3rd year lady with us I guess she was not opportune to get a better space for her level which was why she resorted to being with us but I never asked her why she was there because I don't invade into peoples privacy but if you are ready to talk about it I am all ears.

But I noticed something I didn't like about how the other girls treated her; they disrespectfully spoke to her. I don't know what must have transpas among them before I came anyway that made them talk to her in that manner. Most times, when they start their quarrelling and exchanging words, I walk out of that space because I feel bad seeing such younger persons insult someone older than them. The older student, too, does not behave herself. She talks too much and engages in unnecessary discussions with them.

However, I held a deep respect for her, much like one would for an elder sister; I was careful with her and avoided any unnecessary talks but kept our conversations focused and meaningful. She is a loud person, which is the opposite of me, and I wanted to maintain that respect, so I often chose to limit our interactions and step back whenever possible. That was how I stayed with her in that room until we left

So I met her recently after many years in a saloon, I never knew we both resided in the same city. When she saw me in the saloon she screamed my name with excitement. I never knew she could remember me because it's over 17 years, and she began to tell everyone in the saloon about our days in school, telling them how good and respectful I was, and I was embarrassed. We got talking and found that our kids attend the same school and they are friends. I have always heard my son talk about his son at home but never knew it was my former roommate's son.

Furthermore, after all, she said at the saloon that day, whenever I visit that saloon, I notice the owner of the saloon gives me different attention. One day, I got talking with the owner of the saloon, and She said it's not a joke for a person to testify how good another person is, and with what my roommate said about me that day, that I am truly a good person. Moreso, ever since then, my old roommate and I have kept in contact. We meet at our kid's school parties and school runs, and our kids have that friendship bond.

What I learnt from my story is to be good to people and treat them well today. You never know where you will meet tomorrow. They might be your helper. If I have treated her badly the way other girls in the room did then, and we reconnect again now to find out that our kids are friends, I know we will stop that innocent friendship of our children. Although my roommate had her flaws we should learn how to manage people to avoid interpersonal conflict.

I am inviting @tykay019 @onyiluvdan and @bela90

Aw, i love the fact that you stayed in the school hostels, because you mate different people with different characters. Both the good and bad characters are a big lesson for you. I wish you success in your entry

Yes, the school hostel is a place where you get to meet different personalities with different perspectives and backgrounds. You just have to deal with them with wisdom.

Brilliant presentation.

I've always known a certain lady who was treated like filth because of her low economic background. They would laugh at her and ridicule her in her face.

Years later, the government visited her church and built a house for select widows, which she was among.

They gave her funds to start a business and employed her first daughter in the civil service.

She is doing so well now and runs a business that fetches her millions of naira yearly.

People who mocked at her would surely hide their faces now. This is why we should treat people the same way we would like to be treated. No one knows tomorrow. No one.

Exactly, some people feel the world revolves around them and they are better than others. Treating people well and equally is a great virtue
