Hello everyone, how are we doing? I believe we are fine. It is my pleasure to write the part 2 of Agricultural Entrepreneurship.
The topic of today is : Branches of Agriculture.
In the part 1 of Agricultural Entrepreneurship, the meaning of agriculture and entrepreneurship was well explained in details.
Having known the meaning of agriculture; it is very important to know the different branches of agriculture one can fit in or practice.
There are different branches of agriculture and they are:
- Soil science
- Horticulture
- Animal science
- Agricultural extension
- Agricultural engineering
Soil science is a branch of agriculture that is concerned with the study of soil structure, texture and soil profile.
Knowing the soil structure and texture will help know the type of crops that will be grown on a particular soil in order to get high yields and returns.
Horticulture is a branch of agriculture that deals with the cultivation of ornamental plants.
Ornamental plants are those plant that are grown for beautification, decoration and for refreshing the air in order to make the environment cool and conducive.
Horticulture specifically deals on plantin, weeding and maintenance of ornamental plants. This branch of agriculture is very important because it eliminates environmental pollution by refreshing the air we breathe and thus, can also prevent and control the spread or contamination of air borne diseases and infections.
Animal science is a branch of agriculture concern with the nurturing, growth and keeping of animals. It involves:
Fishery: this is the cultivation and rearing of fish and fish products.
Apiculture:
This is the rearing and keeping of bees. A very important and nutritious product called honey is obtained from bee. Honey has alot of health benefits. And apiculture farm practice is a very lucrative business enterprise anyone can venture into.
Heliculture is the rearing and keeping of snails. Snails are on high demand and being a snail farmer is a very big business one can do.
Just as in higher animals like humans can be sick, likewise farm animals and thus, there is the need to provide health care facilities and services to these animals. And the act of providing this health care services is what is called animal health. This means that for you to do well in animal science, there must be the need to consider the health and wellness of those animals.
This is a branch of agriculture concerned with educating and enlightening agricultural farmers on the best way or means that they can practice agriculture and be able to succeed. As a saying rightly said ***if you are not informed, you will be deformed.
Agricultural engineering is the application of technical knowledge in the field of agriculture. The technical knowledge can include:
Crop improvement: this is the act of genetically improving or modifying agricultural crops into more developed ones.
Construction of Tools And Machines: In order agricultural practice to be successful, there are devices or equipment that are required. Agricultural engineering is concerned with the construction and production of such tools.
Recently, the use of hand tools can be very tedious, stressful, time consuming and tiring. Therefore, machine are constructed in order to make work easier and faster. Agricultural engineers are responsible for the fabrication and installation of these farm machines.
Agricultural engineering also involve the use, handing, operation and maintenance of these machines.
In conclusion, knowing the different branches of agriculture can help one know the area he/she can specialise as been an agriculturist is a key way of becoming an entrepreneur. Being an entrepreneur is a sure way to becoming financially buoyant and thus a means of being financially secured.
