View From Here - NYC
The best place to view NYC is across the river in Hoboken. The best times of day are at sunrise and during the rush hour. If you can someone make it through the absolute chaos on the roads to the wharf, the noise is turned down and you can sit and watch the city breathe.
From a short ferry ride away the city seems peaceful. Which is actual is. The speed at which it moves is man-made, but if you detach yourself from the living organism (say it's a weekday and you are the only there not working), the harmony you experience is very enjoyable to observe.
Sitting across the river, looking over at Ground Zero, I'm reminded that the peace and organized chaos I grew up loving about the city as changed. The bike lanes have expanded, so has the police presence. The rules and regulations continue to grow on top of each other, and the people fall into a life filled with more uniformity.
The city itself is one of my favorite places on Earth. The people living it have turned their eyes downwards to their phones, away from the concrete jungle around them. Wandering the city with no destination becomes harder and harder.
The view from afar still gives me that feeling that it's a foreign place to explore. Sadly, a closer look exposes the safe space for conformity it has become. It's soul being pushed further and further underground.
