Why Write Down Your Ideas?

in #life9 years ago

Taking an idea and turning it into a business or project is an incredible journey. It takes heart, determination, sacrifice, talent, skills, and the will to overcome anything to make your dream a reality.

For a business and/or project leader, it is extremely important to have a business plan in some form to transition from the idea phase into the implementation phase successfully.

Everyone has ideas. That's not the special part. The special part is how you apply and implement those ideas.

Do you maximize personal financial wealth with your idea or are you using the idea for real, positive change?

You may be able to put PR, branding, and sales buzz words to cover your tracks. But that only lasts so long. You need an actually business or project written down to manifest your dreams becoming a reality.

And this can be in any form.

From a a couple lines of scribble of a napkin to hundreds, if not thousands of hours spent writing and developing a business plan.

It doesn't really matter, just write it down.

That is my goal with this post is to reiterate how important writing down ideas are. It is important because:

They make you remember and retain information better.

Some people say writing down a flashcard and definition helps you remember that information 6 times as much as if you didn't.

Just imagine how well you well know your business if you are working on this thing for hours and hours, if not years. I have spent ten (10) years with my business plan. Shit I have known it longer than more of my friends. Can you imagine how well I know that information though? And how almost no question can stump me?

By writing this material down and consistently improving and building it over time, your fluency and confidence will rise dramatically.

You will be able to talk about your business and/or project idea to anyone at anytime. And answer almost any question someone can throw you way. And we all know how we dread giving a presentation and not knowing the answer to the one big question the investors or teachers ask.

You can avoid this by continually writing and improving your plan over time. Just make sure to write and save your changes to show your progression. Looking back at my older business plans now brings me such joy because I can literally see the transition in myself as a human manifest itself in the previous versions of my business plans. It's almost like a moment of time stuck there. It's a really cool additional benefit you get by keeping all the versions of your business plan in your records somewhere.

It helps you get investment and maintain a professional brand.

Having a business plan is a major key to getting investment money. Of course we know someone who can raise money in a flick of their fingers. But most of us don't have that and we have to build and network to obtain capital.

To build and network, you need an actionable plan. A plan that once you get the money you can revert back to and start the journey. Receiving a lot of money with no actionable plan is a recipe for disaster.

It also gives your business and/or project a professional brand you can sell. the amount of people who asked who helped me with my business plan because no way I could have done it by myself is/was overwhelming.

This is all because of how your brand is perceived through the eyes of potential investors, competition, and/or customers. Your brand must look, act, and move like a billion-dollar brand if you are going to ask for a valuation at a billion. No one wants to give you their money. They want to feel like they have control. So let them.

Give them all the information they need, maintain a professional brand, and sit back and answer every question you can confidently and your brand will be worth a billion dollars.

If you don't believe me look at some of these Silicon Valley "unicorns." The majority of them are only worth a billion dollars or more because of what I just said above. Their team and/or leader was able to display a professional brand for their idea an execution of idea that these banks, investment firms, venture capitalists, and/or angel investors actually value your business and give you their money.

It gradually transitions you from the "idea phase" to the "go phase."

The go phase is lets' do this shit and get the ball rolling or else you will live in a regret of wondering what-ifs, always wondering what if I tried that one idea "I" had. Getting out of the "idea phase" and transitioning into the "go phase" is one of the hardest things a human can go through in their lives.

You are literally take an idea from your thoughts and transitioning it into real life reality where people, things, and nature interact with it. What a weird and hard transition that is. But it has to be done. Without it you will always be trapped in a continually maze of your thoughts. Not actually accomplishing anything and just continually going in loops trying to find a way out.

Writing down your ideas and working on them over time is one of the most important ways to get you out of idea phase and into go phase. It may sound simple but is true nonetheless. For the idea to get traction, you must go.

You can't just talk and think about it. You must go out and do. This is where writing you idea helps you do. The more and more you are familiar with your writing, your plan, your strategies the more those thoughts are always in your mind and consciousnesses.

O you see a marketing ad? Now you are analyzing it from you business's perspective to see if it would really be a valuable service to add.

See that new software add. now you actually take the time to download the free trial and test it out. Because why? It's in your mind. Why is it your mind? Because you wrote it down once, twice, hundreds of time.

Besides humans, no other species write on a frequent basis to communicate with one another. Why do you think that is?

It is because we have free will.

Free will to think.

Free will to act.

Free will to live in a way we choose.

That is why we can write. Because we have free will. So if I were you:

Why not write down your ideas?

I hope this brought value to this amazing community as I know if I didn't know any of this information I would never be where I am today and helping so many people.

Looking back my hard work and determination over ten (10) years with my business plan is one of the accomplishments I value most in my life. I sacrificed so much time, effort, energy, friends, and family for this idea, business, and plan its wild. But that what you have to do sometimes to prove how bad you want it to the Universe. And then BAM the blessing starting dropping. And when they drop holy shit to they come fast.

So next time you get that idea while you are laying down in bed, get up and write it down. It may just end up being your billion/trillion dollar idea.

Thank you as always for your time, attention, and support.

Definitely great advice. I am a thinker, and my brain is usually going non stop. I have found that writing stuff down helps my mind to feel less cluttered, actually. It also helps my memory recall, because the act of writing reinforces the ideas you have or reinforces the content you read.

Also, writing a business plan out is a must. As a longtime entrepreneur/solopreneur, I have seen first hand how important it is. If you are serious about your project, then seriously make a plan, or anyone you connect with to invest in your idea, will think and treat you like a joke.

Wow thank you so much for your words. I agree with you so much if you aren't going to treat your ideas with seriousness and respect, how is anyone else supposed to?

And I totally agree with you I believe most of the ideas I act on is because I wrote them down. Like you said the act of writing the thought down almost manifests itself.

Thanks again for your time and attention.

Namaste :)

I couldn't agree more! I have so much in my mind and it always best to jolt it down. I learned this way just last year and I regretted so many ideas I missed out . Writing it down definitely helps when I am having a writer's block or simply looking for a new idea to start a new business or a project.

I've also been implementing writing ideas for my business to map out my overall plan; the good and the bad. So, yeah it definitely helps! and I recommend everyone, to simply do it and to read this article.

As usual great one :) I am happy to read a nice piece from you again

Ayyyyyyyy thank you. Let all those ideas out :)

I am sure some of them can change the world.

I really think one of the major reasons life shifted for me was I started following my gut instinct and starting writing down the ideas, actions, and activities. It really has helped my personal development.

Namaste and thank you so much for your attention. It really means a lot to me.
