Greetings great steemians,it is another great time to share our knowledge here through steem4nigeria who presented us with another engagement contest with topic "THE LANGUAGE IN MY COUNTRY".

As we Know that language is one way to interact with one another that being said that it is the means of communication which in turn brings understanding between people of different tribe and race and build peace among humans
Language is also a way to know the culture of a person or where a person is coming from.

what is the name of your country? How many languages can be found in your country?

Nigeria is the name of my country located at the western part of Africa and known with the name "THE GIANT OF AFRICA" both Africa and the world at large.

Nigeria is made up of over 500 geographical languages which few of them i will mention are:-

  • Igbo
  • Hausa
  • Yoruba
  • Ibibio
  • Ijaw
  • Ikwere
  • Tiv
  • Fulani
  • Kanuri
  • Ika
  • Idoma etc.

Among these languages are three major languages in Nigeria which are Igbo,Hausa, Yoruba
Least i forget Nigeria speaks Pidgin English
However, just like every other country Nigeria official international standard language goes to "English" which is widely spoken.

Among the listed languages in your country, how many are you familiar with?

Among these languages i listed, i am only opportune to be familiar with just four (4) which are:-

  • English
  • Pidigin English
  • Igbo ,which is of course my mother's tongue and first language i learnt since i am an igbo indigene.
  • Ikwere which is also similar to igbo but with a slight difference.
How has this languages improved/helped your life and business?

Just like the meaning of language, this languages has made it easy to interact with both strangers and peers who are not from my tribe,it has helped me build a valuable and peaceful network with people which also in turn has made it easy for business as a real estate consultant as our work involves more on interacting with people on the level and languages they can understand

Are you willing to teach your children these languages? Yes/ No .State your reason

My own parents taught me these languages even in our place of formal educations learning diverse languages are encouraged ,so "Yes" i am willing to teach my children and also encourage them to learn as many languages as they can because

  • It will make it easier for them to network with people outside their tribe
  • It will place them higher than their equals who doesn't understand these languages
  • It will give them better advantage for business and business partnership in future time .
