Hello e-Steemers, I am Chhay Lin
The picture you see up here is a drawing of me. Trying to look serious. ;)
I came across the concept of Steemit last week and am not very familiar with how things work here yet, but from what I have seen and read so far: I LOVE the concept!
So I decided to write my first story, which is an introduction of who I am.
My name is Chhay Lin Lim, and I am a Cambodian Dutch who is living in the Netherlands at the moment. I have recently worked as a Software Developer, and am a cryptocurrency/technology enthousiast which brought me to Steemit at the first place.
I hold a BBA in International Management (Amsterdam School of Economics and Management) and a MA in Philosophy & Public Affairs (University College Dublin). I also embarked on a BSc. Economics program (University of Amsterdam), but left the program to co-found a family business, AgroLim in Cambodia, which cultivates such food commodities as corn, cassava, bananas, mangoes and papayas.
Family history
My parents are of Cambodian origins (Kampot), but due to the civil war in the 70s they fled to a refugee camp in Thailand (Khao I Dang) where I was eventually born. One could therefore say that I have experienced first-hand the direct consequences of a failed communist experiment in Cambodia. Although I did not witness the Cambodian war myself, I was still exposed to the hardships in the camp and also to the traumatic effects of war that had deeply scarred Cambodians.
My goal and interests
In my free time, when I am not playing football, reading, and learning more about computational logic and software engineering, I am probably dancing with ideas and the pen on my blogs - writing articles on Philosophy, Economics and Politics. I try to update my blogs as much as possible and aim to do so at least once a week, but am planning to start posting on Steemit as well. In addition, I attach great value to creativity and self-development. Concerning my appreciation for such values, I am striving to become someone "who has organized the chaos of his passions, who has given style to his character, and who has become creative. Aware of life's terrors, a sensitive person who affirms life without ressentiment."
I look forward to contribute to the lively and jovial community here

I should also try to do a self introduction too! Thanks for the idea @chhaylin :)
Hello @chhaylin, it is really nice to find you here. There are many cool Cambodian living outside of Cambodia that have distributed many things to steemit ;) I am following you! If you have time, please come to say hello to my blog as well. Ciao ciao!
Hi Sovann, thank you for your comment. Where are you from?
Hello, I am from and and also living in Phnom Penh. You are now living in Cambodia or in Amsterdam? I like the concept of your Start Up cities; I used to wrote about my dream project; but it is in Khmer. I am going to translate that and post on steemit as well.
Thanks! You should post it. I'd be interested to read. I live in Breda - a city in the southern part of Holland (in case you're not familiar with the city).
Nice to e-meet. I'm looking forward to reading mant of tour posts.
Thank you for your introduction. Do your parents ever speak about their experiences living in Cambodia during those turbulent times with you? I have known several people of Cambodian decent who's parents lived through or became refugees during and after the Cambodian Civil War and the reign of the Khmer Rouge. Very few of them talk about it to their children even when the child was very young at the time and has some memories of their experiences.
As an aside, one of the songs that lead me towards libertarianism and eventually anarchy was "Holiday In Cambodia" by The Dead Kennedys.
Hi @pangur-ban, my parents have told me many stories about their experiences in Cambodia and their subsequent refuge to Thailand. I know that many Cambodians of the older generation don't want to talk about it. They rather want to forget what happened, but when I see my parents talk about it I think they feel more relieved. The downside when parents don't tell their children about their war experiences is that many of the younger generation have become unaware of the intricate details of their parents' history. I am in the process of writing down my parents' experiences so that our family can forever remember where we came from.
Nice to know that you are a libertarian anarchist btw. I have been looking on your blog, and I have enjoyed your writings so far. There is one I wished I would've written: The Tao of Anarchy. I wish I could come up with something like that. You have earned yourself a follower. ;)
Good to have you here!
