"Oak Creek Near West Fork"
Painted on location in Oak Creek Canyon, north of Sedona, Arizona.

”Oak Creek Near West Fork” 22”x28” (#2043) oil on linen canvas by Lee Gordon Seebach
Whenever I select a subject to paint, it's because there's something about it that makes me say, "Oh wow! I've got to paint that!" That's what Vincent van Gogh did. Maybe those weren't his exact thoughts, but he did express his passion for what he saw around him, and that's what I do.
I never, ever think, "I'm going to paint this because I think it will sell." That's how most professionals think. I know, because I've been around them all my life.
Money isn't my motivation. Art is. I do what I love, and then hope that someone else falls in love with it and buys it. I know as a "businessman," that's backwards, and most professionals are "businessmen." But I can't help it. I love art, and passion, and painting what I fall in love with.
This painting will never sell. It's not pretty enough. It doesn't have someone fishing in it. It doesn't have a trout jumping out of the water. But I painted it because the scene moved me. I loved the light on the rocks with Oak Creek on the left with the reflections of the trees in the foreground. I loved the shadows and the reflected lights. I loved the design possibilities.
I'm proud of it. I like it. Even if no one ever buys it.
I hope you enjoy seeing this painting.
More to come,
Lee
