"Canyon de Chelley"
Canyon de Chelley is one of the most beautiful places on Earth. It is located near Chinle, Arizona, and is part of the Navajo Nation in the northeast corner of the state.
There are trails leading down into the canyon from the rim. I painted this watercolor in my studio from a photo I took on one of my own hikes down to the canyon floor.
With the sun coming from the left around mid-morning on a fall day, I wanted to emphasize the beauty of the rim lighting on the rock formations against the red violet shadows of the far cliffs.
