Yes, Bid Bots are really important when you are using it for earning the more Visibility or if promotion of new service, product or post of contests.
And yes, unnecessary use of Bid Bots are not good because we expect effective posts on Trending Page.
And Bid Bots are really effective because it can boost our work but users should understand real use of the Bid Bots.

It's nice that you decided to not use them anymore. I think upvoting bots are not so good for the community, because we see so many trash in trending and hot page. I'm really happy that you decided to not use them anymore. ☺
The trending page have too much crap that I don't read them most of the time! :)
Thanks for sharing your experience, I have been renting more SP now I think I will be sticking to that strategy in the mean time
I renting SP for a long time but now I will only grow my account with what I have.
I am doing experiment.
I started power down. Each week I put steem from power down back in bots. I started at 510SP now I am maybe 540SP but lots of work. I don't think it is working that well.
You make the bot more richer instead of you. ;)
