Sunday Run Day Snow Day ❄
So today I braved the weather like a really brave or crazed person, & got my 4.1 mile run in. Woohoo! It actually wasn't that cold. It was 30 degrees & snowing. But when compared to a few weeks ago when it was ZERO degrees and not snowing, I will take this balmy weather. LOL.
Here's my route....looks like some kind of creature.
Some people really do think I'm crazy to run in the snow. But, there's different types of snow. If it's barely below freezing - meaning there probably won't be many solid ice patches on your route and the snow is powdery, you should be okay. If the temp is on the warmer side & the snow is just slushy (but not icy) you should also be fine. If you have some shoes with some grip to them, wear those to be on the safe side.
I don't wear these shoes for running often because they have a stiff toe box but they really helped with traction today.
My concern at this point is the temperature dropping and this SLUSH turning to ice. That's when it's dangerous!
Tips for safe snow running:
- Don't expect a personal record
- Your depth perception can be thrown off so take it slow & watch your footing
- Layer up with the first layer being snug & subsequent layers loose.
- You will still sweat & hydration is just as important in cold weather as it is warm.
- Wear a gator or something similar to cover your ears & neck
Don't I look delightful? LOL! That will conclude this blog. Remember, you can still exercise in inclement weather, just be careful. Thanks for visiting my blog & if you have any questions let me know.
Congrats on the refreshing run, great exercise, you are a role model
Thanks a bunch! I try =)
I've always wanted to start running as my daily form of exercise but I remember that I hate running. XD Every summer I'm like, hellz yeah let's do this! Because I heard you get addicted to it and it feels good to run but then I put it off.. and put it off.. until finally it's winter and like -45 degrees outside. So then I'm like Naawwww... XD
I'd recommend finding a group or club - running with others can really help.
That's a good idea!
Hey! Yeah it is addictive! Nothing like that runners high for you
I can't run to save my life, but it looks like you really enjoy it. Snow is my archnemesis....I hate being cold and wet and snow is the ultimate combination of cold and wet.
It can suck sometimes but it beats the dreadmill :)
Nice! I have a good friend who was bummed she had to bail on a 11.5 mile trail race this morning here in Georgia. It was right around freezing and dumping rain! She wanted up doing the mileage on the treadmill so she didn't feel guilty. 😱
Trails are even more slippery! Good for here for doing it on the dreadmill though 👍
I love running in the snow but we don't get much here. I like to run on a grass sports pitch to ensure there are no hidden surprises under the snow.
And as you say, as long as its not frozen, paths are usually ok with a little extra grip!
Right on. Glad I'm not the only "crazy" one lol:)
Smart idea about the hidden surprises too
I will run on occasion but only to the bathroom if necessary. :) I think it is admirable that you are such a boss that nothing will stop you. Go girl!
Thanks so much. :D
Today the running path looks like a giraffe.
And the snow... you keep on haunting me with the snow :D
Haunting you..... I'm. Not a ghost though!
