Too Many Tribes, Not Enough Indians
Hey Tribe of Jess
If you're not already aware, STEEM has gone tribal and it's so hot right now and its got people feeling that #newsteem smell and there's a little more pep in the step of plenty of users which is great. We love this place because we get rewarded for the things we do, so getting rewards is going to get us hype too.

Tribes are springing up left right and centre and tokens are being thrown at us at such a pace many of us don't even know where to look and who to pay attention to anymore.
I think tribes will come and go and there will be those that survive as they create content niches and pocket dimensions for users to jump in and out of to find content and authors they're interested and want to interact with but at the moment its just more of a free for all token grab.
Its all the same people in all the tribes maxing out their posts, ActiFit in Splintertalk who the hell cares right? Clearly, we need more moderation in these tribes with flagging and gentle reminders as to why this tribe was started.
Enter the shared universe
Tribes also need to start onboarding outside steem just like Splinterlands has brought in users of its own tribes need to do this too. I see tribes as all those Marvel movies that built up towards infinity war and end game, all part of a shared universe and each one picked up new viewers along the way appealing to different people.
Tribes will need to start attracting users because its a place where their content interests can thrive and be engaged with and once users feel cosy in their Tribe they can look to venture out into other parts of steem.

A sense of tribalism
What I do admire now about the tribes is the ability to manage the manual curation of posts and while content is still at a premium in each tribe people are paying attention. What I like to see is other users getting rewards and not just the same old people just doubling up.
With these new ways of rewarding users who submit content, I feel tribal users need to take a little more consideration in those they reward and flagging those who abuse their tags and because they each have their niche you don't have to be part of it if you don't want to
For creators, they need to pick the tribes they broadcast to which makes it for a more refreshing feed.
I'm sure the policing and curating of tribal content will continue to improve and will make searching and enjoying relatable content a lot easier.
Like I follow a few people but I don't have an interest in everything they post, for example, I don't give two shits about Steem Hunt posts, so I can avoid them by viewing tribal content & blocking that tag via steempeak.
Tribal tags
The trouble with tagging is also the fact that with users trying to tag as many tribes as possible to get rewards we're missing out on using tags for actual content curation and content in tags are drying up making it even harder to find posts.
- I think we need a system where we can have a designated section for tribe tags
- Then one for content tags
For example:
I'm trying to keep up with as much as I can, but this place is quickly starting to outgrow anyone users interests and you'll need to pick your tribes eventual.
If we continue on this way Steem will probably end up like this video. Warning theme song is annoying and catchy at the same time watch at own risk.
What do you think of Tribes? Which tribe is your favourite thus far? What kind of tribe would you like to see in the future?
Have your say

The new introduction of the various tribe on steemit has create great feelings among steemians
Yeah it has brought some hype I agree and it has plenty of promise but we need to apply some sort of practical use to it too! At the moment it’s feeding on the ecosystem not feeding into the Steem ecosystem

I am really not paying any attention to it, ok maybe in my peripherals but at the core it is just a little discord community, a tag and the Ellen DeGeneres audience. Boom you got a tribe. Oh wait we have had those all along. It is called a community right? Sure is nice they getting "exclusivity" now, they even have a token wait they could have had that on bts before? They could have managed their tag before? No that is wrong...isn't it? I am losing my mind...
On whaleshares they went with pods where you literally lock out any interaction from non pod members they added it to the chain and ideally that is how I want tribes to be, this piggy back ontop of steem and when "moderating" you affecting my steem account and not just your shit token for your shit tag ...
what was I getting to.. Oh yeah the too few indians which is true hence I don't use pods on whaleshares since I want the votes but more than that I don't see the use in keeping an outsider from commenting on my stuff, bring the hate microdick.
It is a good example of how versatile the chain is and how it is in our best interest to have custom interfaces and feed lists etc.
Yep ☝️

Well we did complain that discord communities are keeping too many things off chain so brining things on chain I see as a positive
Lol for sure these communities are a bastardized version until they can grow into self sustaining communities with their own churn rate of users
I didn’t know about the pods thing sounds interesting will have to check it out
Yeah until local voting and local only engagement is added it’s going to kind of be a shit show
I have no doubt it will be fixed in future but I feel tribe owners do need to start looking outside steem it’s a good opportunity no one can has going on their chain to leverage

And boy just wait until they log onto SE with their mobile LMAO!!! It's like 1993 up in there... The worst thing I've ever seen online since y2k.. It's so bad I am losing interest in the entire steem experience as I see so many of our supposed finest (discord groups) leaders associated with it. It's a travesty..

There is a lot I don't understand about this project and all these tokens. If they are generated out of thin air... and if people keep selling them for STEEM and then selling STEEM for BTC, is it not normal that STEEM will tend to $0.00 ?
I can’t really speak about the economics of it I still need to read up about it but you only need like 3100 steem/Eng coins to have a tribe of which isn’t much value when you look at the amount of tokens being created and traded!
I think it’s a cool function for sure I’m just not sure it’s sustainable without brining in new users of your own and generating your own revenue through various functions!

Tribes definitely need to get out there and bring more people in. So far my favourite tribes are Steemleo and sportstalk.
Posted using Partiko Android
Indeed! I’d like to see more sports fans outside steem come to sportstalk and use the service almost exclusively, same for Leo!
If we can have platform exclusive users for each tribe we could see this thing take off

Yes exactly 👍
Posted using Partiko Android
Agreed, there was a time when I thought I'd become a sports journalist..
I need to check them out, I like the idea of Leo as well, and it'd be cool of weed could bring in the stoners of the world to talk about phat dank stuff.
Posted using Partiko Android
Good idea check them out I have stake tokens in them so could give you upvote if I likes ya content 🤣
Posted using Partiko Android
Excellent! i staked the hundred or so I was gifted but haven't wrapped my brain around sports stuff just yet.. Too busy fighting the non mobile steemians 😂
Posted using Partiko Android
Lol🤣 I got about 37,000 sports and 2,050 leo.
Baller over here !! I'm a chump 🤑

You must realise that most of these steemians are first worlders where mobile is a part of their access to the internet and not their only access so the internet like some of us
Oh I definitely get that loud and clear. Part of my prodding was to see if the criteria to receive said airdrop was cross community staking like leo did off of a pal list, that's cool on a group devoted to investors, I can let that slide. But, if this coin was using pal as its list as well then i see that as discriminatory to those that might not have the luxury to hodl what could be a sandwich today. Not to mention maybe I'm not staking because it's a nightmare to figure it out on steem engine with a mobile. I never got answers i just got told we don't want you in our group anyway nanny nanny boo boo stick your face in doo Doo.. That's cool bruv I wished them the best and went on to rant about it so that anyone that cares to figure out which community has such an unprofessional emo creator can and then can decide if they want to be included in an exclusive club that's basically another discord circle jerk using a shit distribution platform.. My friends list is really growing..

Not to fear, free downvotes are coming. Is it really worth 0.1 leo at the cost of steem and reputation? Completely off topic posts will never make trending, filters can be added to exclude posts which contain actifit or other annoying tags.
Yeah they won’t but we can see people are just trying to cross post to grab as much stake as possible and don’t really believe in the various communities
I believe filters will be super important for tribes!

I also wrote about this a bit in my Welcome Leo post. The problem is we have a mixture of agendas! I think niching and tribe communities are great. But we will always have opportunistic folks that are looking at everything with $ signs in their eyes, and a need to manage tag abuse!
For sure but because there aren’t enough users to create a sustainable tribe it’s sort of let slide because we want posts and want to remain as inclusive as possible
As soon as tribes have their own members they will be able to be a little more picky about content they reward and authors they want to promote
Posted using Partiko iOS
You don't enjoy my weed, fitness, investing, sports, pal whatever pals are, splinter posts?
Posted using Partiko Android
I enjoy holding stake and hoping that these communities value their communities so much that they grow and I can dump my bags on some noobs #steemleo
Brilliant!! Takeovertheurf would be my token and community

Absolutely no to separate tags for tribes. 5 tags is already way too much for the average post.
Personally I think posting in more than 2 should be a huge no.
Most of the posts in the tribes are just talking about how awesome the tribes are or farming tokens.
StemGeeks is the only one I've seen come put and say abusing stem includes writing about the token since that isn't stem. The rest of the tribes seem to favor these dumb posts the most, the more they speculate and cause fomo the better.
Also what is with the miner and mega miners being sold? Absolute scams in my opinion.
I think the best advice is never use your steem to buy this stuff (getting your steem is the main if not only goal of all tribes) and consider selling all of it.

If we believe in decentralization and not having control shouldn’t we be pigeon holing things? The reason I think tribe tags are needed is because there are multiple tribes that are similar and there will continue to be as this grows! Allowing users to submit across verticals allows for healthy competition!
We all know many of these tribes won’t make it and once the consolidation happens it would have been better for users to hedge their bets then focus on one that didn’t make it.
It’s just allowing the strongest tribe to win on an even playing field
I’m not fully clued up enough on the miners thing to be able to comment on it, will read up on to eventually

Dear @chekohler
Indeed amount of tribes is already quite confusing. I wish it would be easy to find out all basic info about each tribe. Maybe it could be added to http://steempeak.com/tribes
That surely would help.
Great read buddy
Piotr
Yes I agree! I think each tribe should have a house rules page that can also be hosted on the steempeak tribes pages so users know exactly what it’s about and what the rules are for entering the tribe
I also predict more exclusive tribes will be launched soon now that tag muting is also an option
