Movie Review: Extraction
Hey Netflixers
Since we can't make it out the cinema these days new movies are hard to come by, it looks like Netflix must have had footage from plenty of films and can still edit them during this time and push out content regularly. A recent release from the streaming site is Extraction an action drama starting Thor, lol!
I don't think Chris is going to be able to shake this character for as long as he's going to be acting, Marvel has turned him into a star, and it's going to be hard to break that mould, so we'll see how he does in his other projects.
The giant Aussie, plays an Aussie mercenary and he kicks ass in this movie, and keeps up his action star appeal, but does this movie kick ass? Let's find out!

What is Extraction about?
Extraction tells the story of reluctant hero Tyler Rake, a fearless black market mercenary, who is disillusioned with the world and currently lives in semi-retirement. His called in for one last job and embarked on the most deadly extraction of his career when he's enlisted to rescue the kidnapped son of an imprisoned international crime lord.
It's a pretty standard action plot, set in Bangladesh which does give it a different coat of paint as it all talks place through the busy streets and the hustle and bustle of the Asian country.

What I thought of Extraction?
It's safe to say that the movie is an adrenaline thrill ride and is a bullet ballet of note, with plenty of violence for those who enjoy the kick-butt style of film.
Plot
The plot is nothing new but is interesting enough. It centres around a boy who has been kidnapped and his most likely going to be used as a pawn in a gang/drug war. To stop all this from escalating, he needs to be lead out of the military-controlled area with a tactical team and as you can imagine the help of a tonne of bullets.
Characters and Acting
However, Chris Hemsworth knocks it out the park with his performance - I didn't expect that from him, but he is awesome in this type of anti-hero. I think he carries the lead well and you do feel for him at times as he fights his inner demons while fighting a literal army.
As for the rest of the cast, Randeep Hooda and David Harbour, despite limited screen time are great, in fact, they only stand out, when you look at the rest who are all cut and paste characters with no substance or development.
Visuals
Where this movie shines are in the visuals and the action scenes which are good and well-shot, if sometimes overdone with some of the cuts in between it can be a bit jarring, but I guess that's the frantic nature they were aiming to give the audience.
Their is tonnes of close combat with extremely long shots in tight spaces which are the hallmark of this movie. Sometimes it has a shooter video game feel to it as he moves tactically through the city but the action is done well.
Hemsworth and the stunt team showed off their skills. The movie doesn't overuse CGI which we have come to expect from Hollywood and yes it's used a fair bit, but you don't feel like its too on the nose.
My rating for Extraction
This movie uses its location and ethnic actors to try and appeal to a new demographic in Asia, and you can see it's pretty blatant, I think the culture of Bangladesh could have been brought in more and show western audiences more of what the country has to offer.
Depending on how this movie appeals to consumers, I thinking could have a second one as it's got a strong lead and robust action to warrant a second outing since the ending was left open-ended. It has a lot of elements from JJohn Wick, and we all know how the success of the first movie spiralled out of control.
It's a pretty entertaining thrill ride but no need for any thinking, is more a sensory experience and I have to give this move 6 kidnapped kids out of 10
