A Pay Cheque Mindset

in #money7 years ago

Hey Jesseratti

Enough with all the flash photography let's get down to business, let's talk money, one of those subjects people don't like to talk about and dance around, only helping breed poor financial habits and monetary ignorance. I realise this will be a wildly unpopular opinion which is why I'm posting it on a blockchain site, so let me have it, don't hold back! I can take it!

Bad habits are passed down

The majority of us aren't born into money, I know I sure as shit wasn't. My grandparents were factory workers and my parents, one is a teacher and one is a social worker, I find nothing wrong with their professions, that was just the sign of the times. They did the best they could with the resources they had but what they passed down to their offspring was a poor mans thinking.

The whole idea of going to school and getting a job is what we're taught, save your money and try to live within your means, yet has that helped many of us achieve financial freedom? Surely not. The problem I have is with the mindset instilled in us, which was money is this precious resource, work for it and hold on to it for dear life when in fact money is a tool.

You can work for it, or it can work for you, its all about how you use it. When you're constantly fixated on chasing money you never stop to think about the why and the how you're just laser-focused on controlling the outcome. Getting that monthly paycheque, buying a fake asset in a home and then filling up that pension for when you're not able to trade your time for money any longer.

Always looking at external factors

When we're frustrated with our situation many of us look to external factors, the economy, the job market and vilify the rich for hoarding all the wealth. We try to rationalise our situation and do everything in our power not to look at the fundamental flaw, the relationship we have with money and our education of the concept.

No one wants to do anything for free

Once you get that first paycheque your mind automatically tells you this is how money is earned, you trade time and effort in exchange for this asset and it represents what your effort is worth. We then look at how we can extract more money for doing the same thing, so we look to gain more experience, change jobs, we study further to validate why we should earn more for completing the same tasks.

When you have a paycheque mindset you automatically shut your brain off to the possibilities the money you have can bring, how it can work for you and how you can take advantage of certain situations by leveraging what you've accumulated.

Most people want to make money and spend it (get something they perceive is of value in return) then make money and risk it (you could lose it and learn a lesson or you could earn more). We're taught never to make mistakes, never take risks and rather not fail and coast along than ever strive for excellence, that's the worker bee paycheque mentality.

We place so much value on the money we earn and not the money we would make, we close our hand to reserve what we've collected only to shut ourselves off to new opportunities. You cannot receive with a closed hand and if you're always focused on safeguarding your little stash it will remain just that, little.

Focus on value, not on figures

Instead of thinking that my time is worth x and I won't settle for anything less think of it as what value can I bring to someone's life or to the market that people would have no problem or even question rewarding you for it.

Everything has to start somewhere and it starts with a change in your thinking, then getting used to being placed in uncomfortable situations, finding out you're not made of glass, finding out how to refine your worth, find out what it's like to lose money and learn how to put it to work for you.

The worlds best businesses aren't just about innovation but looking at something that everyone thought was shit, and providing a solution. I guess what I'm trying to say is business and money is just not one of those instant gratification avenues, its slow meandering and filled with traps but if you're willing to take it on and stick with it, more often than not, you'll be rewarded 10x 100x or even 1000x but you gotta be ready to put in the hours for free before your free hours will earn you money.

Have your say

Paycheck mentality- 95% of people are like this, they just need to know a better way.

Fear and insecurity are some sorry characteristics of being an employee. Being dependent on the paycheck obeying head down every day at work break most people.

It really is like a drug people can't quit. If that's what you enjoy by all means go for it but then don't bitch about it. If you bitch about your job and your situation but do nothing to change it I really can't feel sorry for you.

Like you said the majority are scared and insecure

I’d say the welfare system or cheap labor is more like slavery then dudes in suits but I get the general comparison

It’s all really variations of the same thing, we just like to tell ourselves we’re better off than the next guy! That’s basically what middle class aspirations are all about

Yessir! I totally agree but since nobody "let u have it" I'm tempted to be argumentative and at least get into a battle of semantics.

I've got nothing though, that must mean this is a post because I'm in alignment with your views. My views are good, soooo, by proxy it's a high quality post.

Where have all the Jessie's gone?

This Shit right here is fire 🔥

Well how many people want to hear that their situation is completely within their power to change? Not many judging by the response on this post!

Everybody wants to do the same shit and expect different results or point fingers and feel that’s enough work for today!

I was low key hoping someone would take me on though
