Worldly Wanders #2 - Boulders Beach, South Africa

Still hanging around the whole Kalk Bay / Fish Hoek / Simon’s Town area - It’s absolutely breathtaking here!!

I stumbled upon a little gem just outside Simon’s Town called Boulders Beach. It’s a secluded beach between granite boulders (hence the name, Boulders Beach).

A large colony of African penguins are found here which makes this quite the tourist attraction! I must admit - there weren’t too may South African tourists here, mainly foreigners. Makes you feel like you’re in another country ;)

Two breeding pairs of African penguins settled here in 1982. This area is right in the middle of a residential area and provides natural protection for the penguins. Since 1982 the colony has now grown to about 3 000!

Kudos to everyone involved in this project.

There is also a small, but absolutely stunning swimming beach right next to the penguins. Definitely a great place for a quick dip in the ocean.

On the way back to the car I happened to spot this little beauty - a Mercedes-Benz 190SL from the late ‘50s. Not too often that you spot one of these, especially in this condition.
