Street Photography Challenge Week - 24 | "Capture, Click, Compete!" | Buenos Aires
It is a symbol of the city, erected on Republic Square in 1936 in honor of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the capital. Its height is 67.5 meters, it has one entrance, and at its top there are four windows, which are reached by 206 steps.
Probably the most iconic symbol of Buenos Aires. Not only because of the monument itself, but also its location in the middle of the widest boulevard in the world, "Ninth of July".
This journey through Argentina, which is not so well known to me, is a true tale of the senses and the inquisitive spirit, in awe of the might of nature and its ability to build masterpieces. The adventure begins in the capital city of Buenos Aires - an elegant, colorful and passionate city for which tango is so hot that it melts glaciers and football is a religion.
The most elegant, beautiful and European city of South America. The first settler in this place was the sailor Juan Díaz de Solís, who reached the Río de la Plata in the 16th century and declared the lands for Spanish possession. His expedition ends after he is killed by the local Indians.
The most vivid symbol of Argentina and its capital is tango - a dance deeply rooted in the country's culture. Tango was born in the poor emigrant quarters of Buenos Aires at the end of the 19th century, where multinational emigrants, carrying the cultural traditions of countries from all over the world, coexisted. Happiness, as everywhere, was not enough for everyone, and was replaced by a dance available to everyone. It combines the African tangano rhythms, the Argentinian milonha, the Havana habanera, the Spanish flamenco, the ritual Indian dances, the Polish mazurka, the German waltz and merged into the sadness of the homeland, unhappy love, passion and loneliness. The most famous tango melody "La Cumprasita" was written in 1917 by the Uruguayan Gerardo Rodríguez, today there are more than 200 variations.
Buenos Aires is noisy, but also home to its own electric energy. Over the past two centuries, waves of immigrants have shaped the cultural landscape of a modern city. Here you will find people passionate about everything they do, whether they are gathering with their family, attending horse riding competitions or drinking coffee in one of the countless European cafes that line every sidewalk.
There, in Buenos Aires and its old quarters, you understand that this city has chosen its own destiny. Let it be tango. Without him, this huge capital on the other side of the earth would be a collection of street names, parks. With it, he becomes a pulsating legend. Buenos Aires would steal the tango if it wasn't its own, would ban dancing, close the ports, uproot its parks if it didn't have the tango!
Buenos Aires exists to remain tango.
