Collectible Card Video Games Are Really Popular

in #spt5 years ago

Fortnite may be all the rage right now but let's not forget there are other video game genres out there! One that gets a lot of attention here on Steemit is the Collectible Card Video Game. Easy to see why with the success of SteemMonsters.

Big Prize Money

Looking at the largest individual tournament prize pools, six of the top ten were in the collectible card category. Hearthstone is obviously the big one but there's also Shadowverse and Magic: The Gathering.

All this is good news for SteemMonsters / Splinterlands which i think we haven't seen the true potential yet. Having a mobile phone version of it will be massive and of course, promoting it in the wider non-crypto world is also something that has yet to be tapped.

Sports games are nowhere to be found

If there was one downer for me, it was the fact that sports games like Fifa, Madden, or even NBA were either at the bottom of the list or nowhere to be found.

It's my favorite type of game to play but i suppose from a viewing spectacle, folks might as well watch the real thing as opposed to a video game match of it.

Shadowverse is much bigger than MtG:Arena. Steemmonsters currently can't compete with any of the games listed because it's comparatively too simple.

I hadn't heard of Shadowverse before this but i have to say it looks impressive. Hearthstone's like a good compromise. MTG was a bit too complicated and expensive for me back when i was in school and Steemmonsters is too simple for now.

Activision-Blizzard is ruining all of their products. MTG is my favorite. Shadowverse is a lot like MTG but it's main market is digital.

I'll have to check Shadowverse out... especially since it's free to play from what i've read.

More like a free trial since you need to buy boosters to get competitive similar to MtG. But way cheaper, of course.
