Communication is vital in our day-to-day lives and can either construct or destroy society based on the way information is disseminated. For this challenge, I am going to share my ideas following the guiding questions below. I hope you all find pleasure in reading through.

Do you agree with the statement "Communication skill is the power"? Why or why not?

Of course, communication skill is an effective tool that can lead you to a successful course. It enables you to be able to disseminate ideas freely and concisely, thereby building stronger relationships between yourself and your coworkers.

Take for instance a leader with good communication skills will always bring innovative ideas and welcome constructive criticisms to better governance. He or she will communicate ideas and feedback easily. This will then act as a catalyst to inspire more people to join the call.

In the business world, communication skills are a powerful tool for customer service. With this skill, you are able to
Communicate with customers at ease and be able to convince potential customers to become real customers.

Notwithstanding, communication skills can also be a weapon of mass destruction and can lead to serious damage. We witnessed the situation during the COVID-19 pandemic where some leaders used their communication skills to disseminate false information that led to the deaths of many innocent people.

Can you provide an example of situation where "Communication skill is the power"?

There are several instances in life I have witnessed and also read in books whereby communication skills were used by some leaders to build peaceful societies. Take, for instance, Nelson Mandela in South Africa used powerful communication skills to build a peaceful society despite his experience in prison, he never preached hatred but love.

I will also talk about the case of Kofi Annan who used his powerful communication skills to settle disputes amicably between nations without shedding blood. The Case of Cameroon Vs Nigeria over the Bakassi Peninsular.

Within the humanitarian sector, I have witnessed several instances where communication skills are a powerful tool to share ideas and communicate at ease with those in affected and host communities.

Some historical examples where "Communication skill is the power" led to significant change?

I will take the case of the Bakassi Peninsular as mentioned above. This was a situation that would have led to a full-scale war between Cameroon and Nigeria over the Baksasi. This area is rich in minerals such as oil and gas.

Nigeria claimed it was a part of the Nigerian territory while Cameroon also claimed to be part of Cameroon's territory.

Kofi Annan, at the time, was the UN secretary-general with good communication skills invited two leaders of Cameroon (Biya Paul) and Nigeria at the time (Obasanjo) and used his good communication skills to settle the problem amicably.

His communication skills brought effective change and united the two leaders to avoid war and share the blood of innocent lives.

How can one improve their communication skills?

There are various ways one can improve their communication skills of which I will talk about the four most important ones to be considered before speaking.

  • Listen carefully and understand before voicing out your opinion. When you are an active listener, you listen to the information and convey the right information. While listening, pay attention to details and do not only listen throughout.
  • Practice always writing down the important points which will act as a guide not to miss out on important information and pass on misconceptions.
  • Consider your body language when communicating. Your body language informs a lot about your personality.
  • Lastly, ask questions to clarify your doubts in any conversation. When you asked questions you clarified your doubts and did not jump to hasty conclusions.

This is the end of my presentation and I'm inviting @saxopedia, @crismenia, @ruthjoe and @josepha to share ideas about the topic if they haven't done that before.

Communication is very important in our society, business, and organizations we all need communication skills. Thank you so much for inviting me, and best of luck to you.

Hello friend
Your insightful post on the power of communication skills it's really nice especially your examples, especially Mandela and Annan, effectively illustrate the transformative impact of effective communication. Thanks for sharing these valuable entry I have really learnt alot from it

Speaking about that bakassi peninsula issue.. thank God things happen the way it happened because during the military regime of abacha, he had already sent troops to bakassi to secure that place. And rumors were flying all over that their will be war in Nigeria.

It didn’t take long, he died. That man was a terror in naija, during his reign..

 yesterday

Listen carefully and understand before voicing out your opinion. When you are an active listener, you listen to the information ...

I as a marketing person so agree with this statement because a customer reveals his requirements if you let them talk. I was always patient with them and knew what they wanted before I talked and highlighted our product.

Jika seorang pemimpin diberi masukan oleh bawahannya, dan pemimpin juga setuju dengan bawahannya, tinggal dia meyakinkan komunitas untuk menjalankan ide bawahannya.. itu pemimpin yang bijaksana.
