The original name of the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is Metropolitan Cathedral and Parish of Saint Vitalis and of the Guardian Angels. Cebu has been established as a diocese on August 14, 1595. The Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral is the ecclesiastical seat of the metropolitan archdiocese of Cebu.
