Digging Deeper into the MyEtherWallet Saga

in #cryptocurrency8 years ago

The recent acrimonious split between the founders of MyEtherWallet (MEW) has left many confounded. In my last post, I postulated that the two might have fallen out over a perceived difference in commitment and dedication to the project.

But it is always difficult to see the full picture when only one side of the story has been presented. 2 days ago, we had Taylor Monahan's version of events. Today, we will take a look at what Kosala “Kvhnuke” Hemachandra has to say about the entire saga.

On 10 February 2018, MEW founder Kosala Hemachandra released an official statement on reddit. In it, Kosala was factual, concise, and, dare I say it, polite.

I brought my friend, Taylor M., on board knowing that she was up to the task. Let’s just say that she did not disappoint, and MEW took off much faster than either of us could have anticipated. I will always be appreciative of her efforts in helping MEW achieve the success it did.

Kosala also extended his well wishes to Taylor and the MyCrypto team. There was no mud-slinging or name-calling or public airing of dirty laundry; in fact, there wasn't even a hint or trace of bitterness or anger in his response. Kosala also declined to go into any details behind the reason for their falling out, only that their partnership had to end.

While Kosala might have had his qualms, the reddit community didn't. Reddit user hashtagfeminism was the first to call attention to a petition filed with the Los Angeles County Superior Court. The petition was filed by Kosala on 14 December 2017 asking for a mandate requiring Taylor to provide him with full access to MEW's documents and financial records according to his rights as a member of MyEtherWallet LLC.

Based on the documents attached to the petition, Kosala has been considering buying out Taylor's share of the LLC to a tune of USD 1 million since 10 October 2017. It is obvious the two friends fell out as early as September 2017, to the point where they could not longer coexist as equal partners in the LLC.

Regardless of the reason for their falling out, what matters most to the MEW community is the fate of MyEtherWallet following the dissolution of MyEtherWallet LLC by Taylor and an unnamed partner on 29 December 2017 (Source). At the very least, Kosala seems determined to not only soldier on but to continue improving MEW.

The Ethereum community inspired me to create MyEtherWallet, and it still inspires me today. I am not going anywhere. Furthermore, for those of you wondering where I’ve been or what I’ve been working on the past several months, I’ve been busy doing what I do best—so get ready for some new and exciting products/services in the pipeline.

There is hope yet. And for me, at least, I'm sticking with MEW.
