High GPU prices due to miners hit PC gamers

in #cryptocurrency7 years ago

Recently everyone is looking to mine cryptocurrencies due to increased prices of coins like Ethereum, Ripple, and Litecoin. This has put a huge demand of mid or high-end graphics cards from AMD or Nvidia. Even miners are looking to buy graphics cards in bulk due to which prices have increased a lot resulting shortage in the market.

Due to this hike in price, building a gaming PC from scratch has become very hard. Even mod range cards like the GTX 1060 or GTX 1070 prices have gone very high. Normal price of Nvidia’s GeForce GTX 1070 should be around $380 but it is being sold for $700 due to the stock shortages . Same is the case for Nvidia’s GTX 1080 and AMD’s Radeon RX 570, 580, Vega 56, and Vega 64 cards.

Though Nvidia is advising its retail partners to prefer gamers over miners but, impressive margins are forcing retailers otherwise. This issue of pricing is not limited to US and causing problems for gamers all around the world. New gamers have to opt between building a mid-range PC or opting for a PlayStation 4 Pro / Xbox One X. As the prices of cryptocurrencies become more lucrative, this issue will keep worsening until the market is flooded with new graphic cards.
