In 1921, Vladimir Dimitrov experienced one of the heaviest losses in his life - his mother, Kamka Stoilova, who was his dearest person and trusted friend, died. One year later, in 1922, the Master opened his solo exhibition in the Royal Arena, which was followed by wide interest and numerous reviews. With the few funds collected, he left for Italy at the invitation of the artist Boris Georgiev. In 1923, he was included with 21 paintings in the exhibition of Roman artists. It was with these works that the artist was noticed by the American patron John Crane, who bought the canvases from the exhibition for 40,000 lire and concluded a four-year contract with the Master, according to which, for $150 a month, he undertook to hand over to Crane all the paintings he painted in the following Four years.
