DnW Poetry Contest #3: When Time Comes

We met at the right time and place.
It felt safe at your embrace.
I know you alone would keep me whole,
Because your pure heart touched my soul.   

Time stops when I’m around you.
But my life stopped knowing that you’ll leave soon.
Your smile is worth a lifetime to see.
Please, don’t leave me.   

I was engrossed on your image as you lay on your hospital bed.
I prayed to God, “You already have a lot of angels. I beg You don’t take away mine”.
“I love you”, you said. Your hand became cold, and then I knew, your life fled.
Time goes, you say? Wrong. Time stays, people go.   

Heaven gained another angel again, yes it is true.
In a world without you, I’ll try to be happy and sane.
And when the time comes, I’ll be with you and we will be happy again.
Wait for me. I love you.
