MIGRATIONS OF BIRDS OF THE WORLD IN BAJA CALIFORNIA

in #busy6 years ago

The spectacular purple and reddish sunsets of the northwestern Mexican state of Baja California Sur are the beautiful scenery of one of the largest migrations of birds in the world, which has made it possible to promote bird watching as a top tourist activity.

Known as avitourism, bird watching in its natural environment derives from ecotourism and has become an activity in constant growth, based on tourism for animal lovers and adventure, sustainable with the environment.

The South Californian hummingbird, the peninsular mascarita, the peninsular huitlacoche, the sea cock, the long-beaked sarapico and the gray and white heron are some of the most emblematic species that can be seen flying over the coasts and mangroves of Baja California Sur.

In the world there are about 1,100 bird species and in Mexico we have 10% of all the species in the world. Baja California Sur is located in the Pacific migratory corridor, the most important in number of species that arrive to spend the winter and reproduce before migrating to the northern part of the American continent.

A large number of migratory birds arrive, such as the white boréans or pelicans, the geese with the collar and many species of birds of prey, which are a generalized taste for all birdwatchers.

In the state there are many observation areas; for example, Guerrero Negro, where tourism service providers have adopted this new activity in recent years with remarkable success.

The groups of tourists carry a manual that lists the different endemic and migratory species of the region and they are crossed out as they are sighted.

While the diver and the green-necked Canadian are some species of migratory birds that are observed on the coasts of the Baja California Peninsula, the Canadian albino pelican is the most striking example.

On board of small boats to avoid the alteration of the environment, the tourists cross the wetlands, lakes and coasts of the region, where they enjoy flocks of hundreds of birds resting or crossing the skies of the area.

Baja California Sur is not only home to numerous varieties of birds, but its biodiversity extends to countless species of turtles, whales and fish.

The Archipelago de Espíritu Santo, part of the municipality of La Paz, capital of the state, is the main example of this biodiversity, both birds and marine animals, which is why it is known as the world's aquarium.

For this reason, the state of Baja California Sur is visited by a growing number of users, mainly tourists, who perform activities based on nature such as diving, sport fishing or sailing.
