How to live with child’s autism
Once upon a time, Catherine, a mother of three, found a book among others, gift of a friend.
Chicken soup for the mother's soul.
The title was appropriate. At the right time.
Exhausted, but wanting to escape for a while those dark thoughts she had about the injustice of life... she read one after another those little stories. Glass of red wine in one hand and the book in the other, each story revealed something to her. But the one that changed her perspective on motherhood, at the moment, was this one :
Becoming a parent was compared to planning a long trip to a foreign country.
Say Italy. You franctically learn Italian, so you can manage to go wherever you want, when you want. So you could meet interesting people along the way. You read maps and plan carefully so you will not miss anything fun or important to visit or while being there. You even take a look at good local restaurants.
SO IT IS WHEN YOU ARE EXPECTING !
You begin to plan. You take care of yourself, your sleep, quit smoking, putting drinking on old, question mothers and friends around, and read every damned book on how-to.... And if that little one in utero was that much planned, you push the planning way ahead until that kid become an adult and quit the family nest.
But we all know that you really become a parent when you touch down. In that country.
However, something happened. You slept in that airplane.
Flight plan has changed.
It is not Italy after all. You landed in ....Netherlands!
Yep! No more Italian language, no maps, not the same weather. A whole new world. Nothing has prepared you to land in Netherlands. Like giving birth, you can’t go back where you were.
You have to adapt and find step by step how to live in Netherlands. FOREVER!
Now what? How to cop with that new reality ?
That woman, that mother, was me. Seven years ago.
Reading that little story, even though I was already someone very optimistic about life and resilient, just push me forward and get pro-active with my little boy.
Quite a ride and it’s just the beginning.
Autism spectrum disorders is part of our family.
My goal in interacting with the community of Steemit
To share. Give hope to all those parents who have received of diagnosis of autism for their child. I’ve been thinking about blogging for quite a while. Until now, my schedule was full as a working-single mom. Now is the time.
I do not pretend to know better nor to endorsed any specific behavioural program or diet solution, as each boy and girl with ASDs is different.
My blog is about sharing experience and experiments.
Sharing about learning skills and day-to–day strategies.
Who knows best their kids then parents?
So let’s start and see you next on my blog.

I can vouch for her. She is my sister, she is a real person and this is a real story :-)
I'm looking forward to read more!
That's about as good a vouch as you can get around here. Good luck to you both, great to have a new steemian.
thanks @eeks ! I can't wait to see more of her writings.
@cryptoctopus has proven himself to be a legitimate user, so I see no reason to doubt the truth of this post. Especially because there are no dubious verifications. I hope you find success and comfort on Steem @cathou009!
Thank you! I have a lot to learn here. I just introduce myself, but the writings material is on the table, with pictures and all. Though I'm concerned about privacy. Have to be coached on that issue.
Thank you Bro! Lot of material in my boxes! And cheerful experience to share!
This is a true story and a real person. My daughter and sister @cryptoctopus. Thus, a family story.
Glad to have you around!
