Flower Friday ~ Strawberry Fields Forever

~ Well Not Quite ~

I noticed a new flower budding on one of the transplanted strawberry plants. I cleaned out this giant copper cauldron and took out all the weeds and grass that I could find. I manicured and amended the soil. I tried to keep as many of the original wild Smultron and Strawberry plants as possible. We left the center open for a few more well-established plants. I am excited to see how it turns out.

I thought it would be cool to have a giant container that you could just go pick a few berries every now and then when you felt for it. So, it's not quite a "Strawberry Field" per se, unless you jump into the macro realm! And if my past experience is indicative of what I can expect... it surely won't last forever, though my thumb is becoming greener by the year!

So, here are a few shots I just took while waiting for my player to charge before I get back to work! It's great that I was able to get the captures before the flower had completely opened along with a few other up and coming buds! I hope you enjoy and appreciate the fruits of my labor.

I appreciate you taking the time to stop in and see what there is to see.
I hope you all have a most wonderful #FlowerFriday as well as a most excellent rest of the weekend!

Strawberries can be early season, late season or mid season. Those produce for about 2 weeks (different 2 weeks for each type).

There are also 'everbearing', which have a longer producing period, but a smaller berry.

My understanding is that they produce well for only years 2 - 6, then decline. Most folks let a runner start a new plant before that happens.

If you aren't sure which type you have, wait for one ripe red one - eat it. If it tastes like a strawberry, it probably is.

Oh, and nice shots, by the way.

That's some cool information about the berries! I know we have strawberries.. but which exact kind, I will have to look at the tag if it didn't blow away.

But there were the ones here before we got the big ones for the middle. The native ones are Smultron, which is a European type of mini strawberry (way more sweet) and then what looks like the regular strawberry plants back in Texas. I think those are the kinds we bought too so they would all match.

I will update the Macro Strawberry Field when it gets a little more established. Maybe I should get some 'everbearing' ones for the spots that didn't take to the transplant! =)
Hope you have a great weekend!

Red strawberry flower? Its so pretty it might as well be some decoration plant :)

I know right!?! I had never seen a red flower before on one of these! =)
