Acupressure's health benefits

You've had a long day at work and need to unwind, or perhaps you're feeling tired and depressed about a personal issue. For these and other stressful situations, tapping your way to happiness just might bring the relief you need. Acupressure tapping techniques are gaining in popularity throughout the U.S. and Europe and have been shown to have healthy benefits.

Researchers at the University of Michigan Health System found that applying pressure to acupressure points may reduce sleepiness and help keep students awake during class, and there's no reason why the same would not be true for anyone pulling a long workday.

The researchers noted,

Our findings suggest that acupressure can change alertness in people who are in classroom settings for a full day, which could be very good news for students who have trouble staying alert at school.

In a different study, researchers found that subjects who self-applied acupressure between the medial ends of both eyebrows at the top of the nose for 10 minutes experienced a 50-percent reduction in anxiety and stress.

The method may prove to be effective in attenuating anxiety and stress in everyday life as well,

the researchers from St. Savas Hospital in Athens, Greece, noted,

and may replace tranquilizers and hypnotics, at least in part, for thousands of people under stress.

BodyTalk Brings About Balance

The BodyTalk System, a popular acupressure technique, synchronizes body, mind and spirit to promote greater peace of mind, clarity of perception and self-awareness.

The BodyTalk System provides profound, lasting treatment results for a wide spectrum of emotional (and other) imbalances," said Sid Snider, a BodyTalk practitioner in Portland, Oregon, "Every aspect of your mind, body and spirit should be in constant communication; however, the stress of daily living, injury and illness compromise that holistic communication. Many problems can result, such as depression, anxiety, obsessive thinking and unhealthy boundaries.

You can shift limiting beliefs, release stuck emotions and improve quality of life with BodyTalk.

The International BodyTalk Association teaches BodyTalk Access, a course for laypeople that teaches techniques you can use for illness or injury, as well as practices to use in a weekly health-maintenance routine.

Emotional Freedom Through Tapping

Another acupressure technique called The Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) focuses on addressing past emotional wounds.

The basic premise is that all negative emotions are caused by a disturbance in our body's energy system,

said International EFT practitioner and trainer Stefan Gonick of Westhampton, Massachusetts.

One uses EFT by focusing on a painful memory or recent experience while tapping on a set of 10 acupuncture points. The tapping clears the underlying energy disturbance and the negative emotions drain away.
